Man I give Brady some credit , but that final four run was given to LSU by CT. Those players would've come to LSU had Brady not been here. The huge coaching gap was realized once we got to the final four. And yes I know we beat Coach K and duke but athletic teams had given them hell all year.

Considering his first team here had Taz, Marcus Thornton, Garrett Temple, and Chris Johnson I'd say it was in pretty good shape when Brady was fired. Trent's problem was he couldn't recruit anybody for when three of those guys left after that year.

You know you opened the wrong thread when the quote above is arguably the most lucid and logical post in the thread.

Tasmin Mitchell
Garrett Temple
Marcus Thornton
Terry Martin
Chris Johnson
Bo Spencer
Quinton Thorton
Garrett Green
Alex Farrer
Storm Warren
Dennis Harris

Damn that's a tight line up...a jr high coach could have won 20 games with those guys...it's all about recruiting and TJ doesn't have what it takes

You can't be serious that it is "much" worse shape. LSU missed the tournament the year after a Final 4 with a majority of starters back, then the next season proceeded to start 9-13 with a team that included 2 legit NBA players and 2 that have been around the league before Brady was fired.

Selective Memory? Two significant starters on that team were injured in Brady's last season.

Based on my original statement I said 2 legit NBA players and 2 that have been around the league. Thornton and Randolph played in every game. Johnson played in all but a few and Temple played in every game. No injuries among the 4 players I mentioned. Yeah, Taz went down, but no excuses on JB's disaster of a final year.

Has anyone heard from the TCU fans yet as to their excitement level on getting Mr Charisma?

I didn't like John Brady, but he was a good recruiter. My problem with him was after the talent got to LSU, too many players wanted to get out as quickly as possible. Something wasn't right. Just watch a replay of his final 4 with Tyrus pouting, those players weren't happy, and it went beyond the score.

As far as Dale Brown, I'm his biggest fan, but even I understand he wasn't perfect. He was a great recruiter, able to get players beyond Louisiana from anywhere in the country. He even got top name assistant coaches, Tex Winter anybody? He was a great motivator able to get the best out of the worst players. He was able to develop players, people forget how bad, Geert Hammick, Jose Vargas, Ricky Blanton, and many others were, that developed into professional level players. But his weaknesses were X's and O's especially his motion offense which I hated, often leading to inconsistent play and letting inferior teams beat us. Dale Brown built LSU up into a national powerhouse and to the point where people crave having a winner again today. Anybody who says that Dale Brown was a bad coach is showing how out of touch with reality they are.

As far as the recruitment of those players, you're totally right.

But...how many teams kept Duke under 60 that year? The defense LSU played that night was amazing...who do you think taught those players how to play defense so well, brother?

Brady was an A+ defensive coach who had his teams run a playground offense. If he had his players watch a 30-minute instructional video by Paul Westhead, we'd have 10 national titles under Brady.

Why compare Brady and TJ. Both were/are horrible college coaches. Dale Brown was better by far but couldnt get us a Natl Champ and didnt look great agst top coaches with less talent. Brady and Tj couldnt get us back to the success that Dale Brown washed down the drain. We need a great and proven recruiter who will bring in some great assistants.

The basketball program had a pulse when Johnson took over...this same basketball program has been on life support for the last three seasons. How anyone can't see this is either dumb as dirt or blind.

Why didn't TCU hire Brady away from Arkansas State?

I don't know if he was a good or bad coach but this teams had pretty good records vs Coach K, Pearl, Olsen, Barnes, and few other Coaches with great reputations. TJ didn't schedule or get far enough in the tournament to have a record vs those type coaches.

Thank you. We had the talent to make a run in the NCAA tourny, just not the coach to get them there until Johnson came.

Can anybody realistically look at the team we have now and say that they will make a run in next year's tourny minus Hamilton?

And since we're talking about the program, that would include fan support which has dropped exponentially since Brady was canned. The PMAC had gone from full to 3/4 full at the end of the Brady era. It is now 1/3 full. Apathy level at an all time high, much moreso than when Johnson arrived on campus.

The must not want to ever go to the Final Four.

That's what people who hire Tim Floyd must be thinking, too.

well TJ did have some talent when he walked in

whoever the new guy is....not so much

so from that aspect, the program is worse short term

and I don't really see anything the TJ did that you could say would help long term either

so he left it in worse shape- period

the program is in pretty bad shape. if hickey stays him and jobIII are good talent but we have no bench in the post.

as of now ludwig probably starts and our only post back up is the tuba player.

that is piss poor shape

Brady left TJ a gift to get started. TJ should have used that team to build on. Instead we have nothing. After 4 yrs of TJ our talent level is the worse ive seen n 30 yrs and the program is in the shitter.
