2012 LE Preseason Rankings

These are my rankings. I ranked each team's hitting and pitching on a scale of 1-14.

14 is the top ranking. 1 means i think you are at the bottom.

1. Louis

Hitting: Louis hitters are really really storng. Albert and Kemp headline, along with Youk and Uggla. Then he has a lot of solid hitters: butler, delmon, Hunter, Werth, Doumit. Im looking up and down and Louie got great value all around. His whole bench would start on Ricks team except Morel. He is right there after Clams. 13 of 14.

Pitching: Louis doesn’t slack off much in the pitching category either. 3 studs Gallardo, Lincecum and CC highlight. And 3 legit closers, Bell, Putz and Bailey. The depth is a little weak, but at the top, there are not many better teams. 13 of 14

2. Clams

Hitting: Yes, it is pretty faptastic. I think it’s the best hitting core in the league. Votto, Zimm, Braun, CarGo, McCutchen…Hard to beat. I like his 2ndary guys, Wieters, Hill, Castro. Pretty solid. If Morneau gives him anything, its lagniappe. With that being said, his bench is pretty stale. I still have him as the best in the league. 14 of 14.

Pitching: I have mixed feelings here. While I really like Kershaw as well as Jordan Zimmerman and even Masterson/Garica, I still wonder if this crew is enough to propel him to a title? I like his bullpen. 2 legit closers and great setup man. Like his hitting bench, im not high on his pitching bench at all. Having a stud in Kershaw and a full bullpen has him up a notch. But Keep an eye on this group. 10 of 14

3. Rondo

Hitting: Nobes had solid keepers and I like his picks during the slow draft. Good power to speed ratio. If Joe Mauer and Morales return to fore this is one of the better hitting teams. Im going to reserve judgement at this point. His bench is pretty solid as well. 11 of 14.

Pitching: Like his hitting, he really doesn’t have any waiver type players. Verlander, Latos, Shields, Marcum is a good 4 some. And he has 3 closers, though there are some question marks there. Chapman is intriguing. 12 of 14

4. Gyno

Hitting: I think Gyno has solid hitters all across. My naked eye is telling me he lacks some of the POWA he had last year though. He thinks Bruce will be MVP, so who knows. I see some guys with potential break out, Kipnis, Davis, Belt. I think if 1 or 2 of these guys emerge as all star types, Gyne will really benefit. McGehee and Roberts were 2 sneaky picks I liked late. 8 out of 14

Pitching: Hamels, King, Cliff, Romero. WOWZA. That’s a dandy top 3. He also features 3 closers that should get 30 a piece. Starting pitching depth may be needed if he has any injury. I think this is one of the better staffs in the league. 14 of 14

5. toula

Hitting: Toula brings back another top hitting team. I know the Cano injury has him sweating, but he also features Upton, Prince, Tex, and the Ramirez brothers. Pretty damn stout, as well as flexible. I liked some of his bench pickups, Moreland, Scutaro, and Lehair. His hitting comes in at 12 of 14.

Pitching: The pitching is not as good; though Roy Halladay and Hanson are a good 1-2; but lets not pretend there are not questions here. Halladay’s velocity is down(who knows what will come of that) and Hanson is injury prone. Scherzer had a bad 2011. Johan is hurt. Bauer will start in the minors. If we were ranking on “what might happen”, he’d be much higher. But I will rank on what I see now. He is right in the middle at 6 of 14.

6. Vicks KC

Hitting: I think he put together a pretty good core of hitters here. Should hit a decent amount of HRs. Wont steal many bases, unless Rios goes back to his old ways. He does have some injury question marks like Laroche, Luke scott, and on a bigger level, Hamilton. But it definitely has potential. 6

Pitching: Grienke, Haren, Josh Johnson, woo wee I like that 3 some. Also has 3 or 4 other guys that will be good spot starter types. His bullpen is decent. I like Addison Reed a lot. If Balfour gets the A’s closer job he will have 2 closers. One of the best staffs in the league, if fully healthy. Imo 11 out of 14

7. Lester earl

Hitting: I think I have a solid hitter at every position. Have 2.5 mashers in JBats, Reynolds and big Papi. And then a handful of guys that could hit 20-25 HRs. May lack some speed though. I like the flexibility there. Alvarez/Ibanez are the only 2 guys on my bench that will prob stick. I give my offense 10 out of 14.

Pitching: Im not as high on my pitching. I know what Cain will give me, and Kennedy was great last year, but can he duplicate? I took 9 starters over all, and hope 2 or 3 can pan out. I took 3 guys that are being converted relievers: Sale, Feliz and Bard. Im hoping 1 or 2 can turn into a Cj Wilson type. I potentially have 2 closers in Myers/Brox…Who knows what is there at this point. Middle of the pack staff as of now. 5 of 14

8. geauxLsu07

Hitting: My eye tells me this would be a great realife lineup. He has a lot of really good baseball players. My naked eye, like Gyno’s team, tells me he lacks a big of pop. But that could change depending on guys like Gamel, Lind, Trumbo, Monetero. What will they do? I have him at 7, with chance to jump up a few spots.

Pitching: His pitching isn’t pretty, but I see a lot of value here. Strasburg and Yu will be the key. If Yu pitches like expected, he’ll have 2 frontline studs. Hellickson and Buchoz are similar, excelling at everything but K. 2 sleeper guys like Dempster and Kuroda are good fillers. I like his bullpen. Solid. I give him 8 out of 14. With potential to jump up if he can keep his K:9 up.

9. Goodfellas

Hitting: I like his power at the top. Miggy, Giancarlo, Santana…Moustakas and Goldschmidt should be solid. Anything he gets out of Posey will be great. But he really falls off the planet after that. With the players in lineup now, he will prob lead the league in SBs. But since they have no power, he kind of falls back to the middle of the pack for me. 9 of 14

Pitching: Pitching has great potential, like most Earl teams. Moore will be a stud I think. He also has the Hudson brothers, along with their question marks. Holland looked great at the end of last year, but has to put it all together. His bench pitchers are pretty bad, imo. He has 2 closers, one who wont last in Nathan, imo. Mo is a stud though. I have his pitching as 2 now. I think it has potential to move to middle of the pack though. Im not really sold on most of these guys either because of injury, experience, or just past bad play.

10. Rick

Hitting: Has no elite hitter on his team. How that happens in an 8 man keeper, not sure. I like Gordon and CHoo. Both solid. His 3rd best hitter is…..Im not sure. Elvis Andrus is a solid fantasy SS with runs and SBs. I thought his early draft was fairly bad. Im not sure there is a weaker hitting team in the league. 1 out of 14

Pitching: I think his pitching is actually pretty good. A lot of good strikeout guys. Beckett needs to show up. I like Gio and Bum. Cueto is solid. Also has 2 solid closers, with the potential of 3. His depth is pretty non existant. I give him 9points out of 14.

11. Chowds

Hitting: Kind of started behind the 8 ball with keeping Ryan Howard in an 8 team league. Also kept Adam Dunn with a lot to prove. With that being said, he has some solid options in ARod, Granderson, and Lawrie, though unproven. In the draft he landed a lot of vets that are on the downside, but at least you know what you are getting. With a hurt Ryan Howard I see a middle of the pack hitting team. 4 of 14

Pitching: Weaver and Wainwright make a pretty good 1-2 if Wainwright is fully healthy. Carpenter is his #3, already hurt and getting old, but productive when pitches. I like billingsley to bounce back. And I like what Chowds did with his bullpen. Got good value. I think there are better staffs, I see right near the middle. 4 of 14

12. Cwill

Hitting: His top hitters are not up to par with some of the top teams, or even some of the middle tier teams. His draft was hot and cold. I liked the Neil Walker pick. Mayberry not so much. He really needs Heyward to rebound, and Hosmer to take the next step. Otherwise, I he will scratch to make the playoffs. 3 out of 14

Pitching: Pitching is better than hiting. Lester, Wilson, Garza is a decent top 3. Niemann is good for a spot start here and there. What will Zambrano bring? Only has 1 closer but 2 solid mid relief guys. The players on his bench are worthless, imo. I have Will at 7 of 14

13. Port

Hitting: His keepers were solid, though I wasn’t totally high on his draft. The bottom portion of his starting lineup is going to struggle to hit HRs. Bench has a few upside guys, but nothing of note. I see a right below the middle of the pack type hitting squad here. I don’t think I am as high on some of his guys as he is though. I have him at 5of 14.

Pitching: His pitching has some decent arms, but no standout pitcher at the top. Beachy, Anibal, Liriano, Wandy. Solid, but not competitive with some of the top teams. He was able to lock down 2 really good closers, however. I have his staff at 1 of 14. Though the bottom few are all pretty close.

14. Chat

Hitting: solid hiting at the top. But I think it falls off pretty good towards the bottom, even when you get to his utility spots. Though his starting lineup should be competitive. 2 of 14

Pitching: I like his pitching a little better. Price, Pineda, Minor are 3 pretty good at the top. His 2nd tier pitchers have a lot to prove with no real strikeout threats. Capps is his only closer with Soria on the mend. 3 out of 14

He's too much of a free swinger but he has the potential to go on a hot streak here and there. Those types can frustrate.

He's had solid 1st halfs last 2 years...I'd like to think the injury contributed to his drop-off last year.

I'm suprised they are going to start him in the 2-hole, he's not a high OBP guy.

I'm very high on him this year, got him in all my leagues. Hope it pays off

he had a sloppy 2nd half last year. But was awesome in the 1st half. I think he is closer to the 1st half hitter than the 2nd half hitter.

He takes walks too, so not totally a free swinger
