20 win seasons

Trent before LSU: 2 out of 9

Frank Martin: 5 out of 5

You can revise history all you want, but Trent Johnson was a much bigger hire at the time than Frank Martin, and I think Martin is awesome.

I can't agree with that.

This was a great hire for SC.

Maybe we're waiting until Pearl can recruit again.

Then watch the fireworks.

I had never heard of him (TJ), or if I did I quickly forgot. After hearing of the hire, I looked at his record at Stanford and thought, "OK, he won a conference championship at a major conference, yada yada." Decent hire. But I never thought it was a top shelf hire.

I didn't appreciate the impact the twins had on his success. Maybe he was lucky.

TJ was certainly considered a solid hire.

However, there was also a fair amount of criticism since those Nevada and Stanford teams were pretty loaded and sexy picks to go much deeper in the tourney some of those years with players like Snyder, Fazekas, the twins at Stanford.

(1) Johnson's resume includes more than just Stanford. He also took freaking Nevada to a Sweet Sixteen. All Martin has is what he has done at KSU, which is comparable to what Johnson did at Stanford.

Johnson@ Stanford
20 win seasons: 1
Tourney wins: 2

Martin
20 win seasons: 5
Tourney wins: 6
quote:

2) Johnson most certainly kept Stanford "near" the level they were at before.

No not near at all. The ten years before Trent Stanford has ten straight 20 win seasons and at least one tourney win in every season. Trent started his tenure with three straight below twenty wins. Saying he kept things "near" the same level is like saying Smoke kept things "near" where Skip had them.

It's not like Stanford is some historically great program where anybody with a pulse can go to the NCAA tournament every year.

Ten years of sustained success is a firm foundation though.

Maybe he is waiting on the season to end. Maybe he'll get Scott Drew, Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, or someone like that.

Will you people just stop. If he was going to fire Trent he would have fired Trent by now. And yea post the top guys everyone thinks will be te next great coach. No shite we want those guys, it's like being a Mississippi st. football fan and saying they should fire their coach and hire Urban Meyer when he left Utah. It ain't gonna freeking happen

Alleva won't fire TJ this year... if he doesn't make the NCAA next year, he should. If he doesn't, he should go to. And if u put enough paper on the table, you can get alot of people.

If Illinois couldn't buy Shaka Smart for 2.6 mil and he's from the Midwest I doubt we could either.

2.6 MM will get you just about 95 percent of the BB coaches out there... Shaka must love WS.

Disagree. He was never a "catch".

Can't be any worse than what we have now......the last 3 years have been abysmal, and his first year wasn't even that great when you consider how bad the SEC was in 09.

Pretty much confirms that LSU is satisfied with having a mediocre basketball program right now.

And a mediocre athletic director.
