| Homebrewing: More Equipment on the list Posted by BugAC Thinking about getting some new equipment. 1) Kegging system. Once I convert my freezer to a kegerator. 2) Brew pot with valve. So I can let gravity transfer my wort to the carboy. (and eventually lead up to all-grain system) 3) Aerator Pump. So I will know for sure, that my wort is oxygenated before pitching yeast. $35 4) Stir Plate - for yeast starter. Can anyone recommend a good one? $89 5) Additional freezer for converting into multi tap kegerator. 6) Equipment for converting to an all-grain system. Reply Back to Top |
quote: These two I dont think are a need at all. Just follow this process for the starter and you should be good LINK As for the pump I would rather shake the crap out of the carboy than worry about the pump putting some bacteria into the wort and you can also over oxygenate too. Posted by Zappas Stache on 3/14 at 4:16 pm to BugAC I have been doing AG for about 4 years now and I don't have any of that stuff. I've thought about drilling out my boil pot to put a cutoff valve in it. But just haven't done it yet. For mashing, just get a 10 gallon round igloo, replace the plastic water outlet they put on it with a brass cut-off valve, buy a false bottom (or make your own PVC manifold) and go.This post was edited on 3/14 at 4:22 pm Reply Back to Top |
I'm all about being cheap, so here is my cheap advice: quote: Go to a kitchen supply store and get a decent pot. I prefer at least a 10 gallon so I can boil down some high-gravity stuff, but whatever floats your boat. You can get smaller and just use Fermcaps in your boil. Drill a hole in the pot and look up directions online for the hardware to make a weldless spigot. I got everything at home depot for less than $20. quote: Look up a DIY on-line. I made one using a cpu fan, har drive magnets, and a piece of clear acrylic. quote: Craigslist is your friend. quote: You'll already have a brew pot, so all you'll need is the cooler. 10 gallon cooler and a DIY weldless valve. I don't use a false bottom. I use a steel braid. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Meh, just rock the bejesus out of your carboy before pitching... quote: Build one yourself. I used a project box, a case fan with a couple of hard drive magnets glued to it, and some cheap electronic components. Probably cost me $10. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
