Final Question for Advice in Keeper League...Beltre or Dee Gordon?
Posted by rpg37 on 3/6 at 3:09 pm
Thanks for the help on Strasburg - I'm going with it. Final question now, who would you keep, Dee Gordon ($1) or Adrian Beltre ($22)?

Before you laugh, I am trying to conserve as much money as possible before the draft. Gordon had 24 steals for me last year in two months and could easily pick up 50 in a weak SS field. I feel like he a better bargain than Beltre. Beltre is obviously better, but I feel like I could get him at that price easier than Gordon. Opinions?

if you keep Cain, can you trade Strasburg?

or vice versa?

id lean on keeping Strasburg. he'll be on an innings limit, but will be more beneficial for the future

I love Cain. He's a fricking horse and is consistent as frick.

He's no Strasburg though in terms of the ability to dominate. I guess it would depend on the rest of your pitching staff. If you don't have a lot of reliable guys on your team, Cain may be the way to go.

I have Strasburg now and have an offer for Cain for him straight up which is intereting.

That's my thinking, also.

Well, our draft is March 28. However, I am keeping Kershaw ($10) and Jordan Zimmerman ($1). It's a 10-team league so I plan on those guys being my No. 1 and No. 3/4 depending on the draft. Either one of those guys would be solid No. 2s.

Assuming he stays healthy. It's an intriguing offer. One of the better ones I've seen posted recently.

Then I'd lean towards Strasburg.

Curious as to why that bit of info helped the decision. Can you please explain?

It seems $$ are pretty valuable in your league, w/ Kershaw being $10 and J-Zimm $1.

If that's the case, I keep Cain and his lower price tag.

It is an auction-style draft. We have a $260 budget to select 35 players, of which 25 start.

Kershaw is pretty damn reliable at this point, and allows you to take a chance on Strasburg staying healthy.

If you were keeping someone like Ubaldo Jimenez instead or an older guy that could break down, then I would lean towards Cain.

I also find it interesting that Stras is 15, Kershaw is 10, and Cain is 10.

Thanks for the info.

Stras was selected in the supplemental draft three seasons ago with a $15 bid. In our league, supplemental players do not count towards your salary until they start in the big leagues...so it was non-increasing payroll. Kershaw was $10 two years ago when he was still a bit unknown at 21. His contract, however, will elevate the next few years, quickly, as will Cain.

$10 Kershaw is cheap as hell. I'd go high-ceiling, which means Strasburg.

I plan on keeping Carlos Santana ($10), Alex Gordon ($1) and Hunter Pence ($10). Along with my three pitchers, Kershaw, Zimmerman and Strasburg, I have one final roster keeper spot.

Who are your other options?

That's some cheap keepers, if given the choice, I might have one high-dollar or good value bat and no keep Zimm
