Why do folks think that Wilkerson's one career season of unpaid coaching experience qualifies him to coach maybe the most important position group at a nationally elite program

Because they know the name, most people have no idea who most OL coaches are. Bama had maybe the best OL in CFB last year, who is their OL coach?

I'm pretty sure if Stud left, for what ever reason, we could find an adecate OL coach.

It was just a half-hearted option I put out there. They could sign any o-line coach. The only name you could really come up with without doing research on potential candidates after another whole year
They couldn't just sign any OL coach who could do as well as Stud has. As far as other potential candidates go, I'm not crazy about Josh Henson but I'd take him over a completely unproven commodity like Wilkerson.

I would be completely shocked if Wilkerson is coaching at LSU in the fall.

define any OL coach. The OL was good last year, but really wasn't a couple of years ago. Quit acting like Stud is some, one of a kind, dominating, irreplaceable OL coach. There are plenty of qualified OL coaches out there. Just like there are plenty of good DB coaches out there.

"any" - whatever or whichever, without specification or identification. I used that word because it is the same word used by the poster I was responding to. We can't just hire "any" coach and expect him to deliver the way Stud has.

The OL has had one non-dominant year since Stud was hired (2009--2008 was on the defense and the QB). I am not saying he can't be replaced, merely asking why so many are in such a hurry to replace him? "Good" and "qualified" aren't what we are looking for. We require "outstanding" from our OL, which is what we have pretty consistently gotten from Stud. Why risk less if we don't have to?

We have been blessed with such good OL play the past couple of seasons that I think many fans consider it a mere formality now, when that is not the case at all.

I don't know the names of all the OL coaches out there. I have no idea who Bama's OL Coach is, but I'm not responsible for hiring one, so it doesn't matter. When he says "any" OL Coach. He probably does not mean it literally. He means we can find a replacement amoung the qualified coaches out there.

LOL, wut? Yes the D was terrible in 08, but there was nothing special about the OL in some of those years and they were getting blown up on 1/9 BTW.

That was explained above, in this thread, its more about keeping Frank Wilson, than getting rid of Stud.

Then he should say "among qualified candidates." Not "any." It's also not exactly reassuring to effectively say, "I don't know of anyone else out there who would be as good, but I'm sure they exist somewhere."

The OL was very special in 07, 10 and 11 and well above average in 08. On 1/9, they got blown up by the best DL in America for one game. So sick of LSU fans completely ignoring the rest of this amazing season based on that one performance.

Who says we can't keep both? Why not try?

Fournette will be the biggest get in this class. The next big watch since McKnight

That would not be reassuring if Les Miles, the guy that does that type of hiring said it,but for message board posters, what difference does it make?

maybe you missed where I said the OL was great last year. I am not in any way ignoring 13 wins. We do disagree on the OL performance the several years though. in 2009 imo the OL was outright bad.

you are talking it a bit too seriously. The main focus was keeping Frank thru the 14 recruiting season and since he had offers as OC this offseason, the thought was for him to stay, we'd need to promote him. Disagree about Stud's job as OL coach, but he is not a dynamic recruiter.

If the collective football knowledge of the RB can't even come up with one decent name, I'm not gonna just assume we will hire someone who will do as well as Stud. Miles has been very up and down with his assistant coach hires, and we've got a hell of a nice, plump bird already in the hand.

You said they were "good" last year. Not trying to get too much back into semantic minutiae, but that isn't giving them (or Stud) enough credit IMO, when they may very well have been the best OL in the nation throughout most of the year. 2009 was bad. Agree to disagree on some of the other years.

Frank didn't take the OC jobs this year when offered, why do we assume he will take them next year? Even assuming he is offered a job he would leave for, unless Stud gets another offer, too, he's not leaving and we're not firing him to promote Frank. That's just not how Les rolls. We should try to find a way to keep Frank, but it won't be by promoting him over Stud. Stud doesn't need to be a dynamic recruiter as long as we keep bringing in top OL, which should be his main focus as a recruiter IMO. Henry and/or Raymond should take over in his recruiting areas where he has struggled to identify with local talent.

If fournette went to BAMA it would be a stretch to think Saban would be there for his entire career

I really don't see Saban at BAMA for 5 more years. He would be 66

I wonder how many people think that he just randomly chose to transfer there and this wasn't orchestrated by Burns brothers. You know he won't be paying tuition.

He was originally supposed to be transferring to Karr.

How is it not good news? What do you guys think it means? Falkins is going to get Fournette to Bama? I don't see how it affects anything one way or another.

Yes, its highly suspicious he would choose a private school 3-4 miles from his current public school over a charter school across the river. Come on, this Bama/Burns/Saban paranoia is getting out of hand.

Damn I didn't see that info on Falkins was on scout. I got mine from a bama beat writer article on the SEC board.
