I'm sure the average parishioner is great at differentiating between the two.

Now, whether or not the priest should deny ANYBODY communion, I don't know. I'm not familiar with the SOP in that situation

That's his job if he knows there is some impediment.

"'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." - Leviticus 18:22 (pretty sure this is the Old Testament . . . before the Catholic church)

Is Christianity based on the Old Testament? Or the teachings of Jesus?

quote:

“Not everyone can accept this teaching, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.” (Matthew 19:11-12)

"Born Eunuchs" are defined by the Talmud not as being born without testicles, but rather, being born with stereotypically effeminate characteristics.

Sorry, Thomas Jefferson disagrees:

quote:

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.

Is it really THAT hard to understand?

If you're living in a state of sin, you should not take communion. Period.

John Kerry was also denied communion years ago for his work in advocating the legality of abortion. Anyone who publicly flaunts their sins will be denied communion--the Priest CAN'T give it to you in good conscience.

if everyone was honest, the lines to receive communion would be short as hell

The problem is that there are too many people that identify as Catholics that are ignorant to much of the church doctrine.

I am certainly not perfect but I am trying to learn and continue to learn all about my Catholic faith everyday. Too many people are indifferent and that's why you see many "hypocritical" Catholics.

You're right and the confession line would be longer.

Isn't that against the rules as well? You shouldn't use him to justify your argument.

And a lot of this is due to poor education. Generally, if you want know about the faith, it's something you have to seek out and study on your own.

i feel like god knows my sins but still accepts me as his son. if some dick in a priest costume can't accept that and give me my holy wafer, then he can go frick himself. i'll still talk to god every morning and every night.

That's where the phrase comes from dude. Don't use it if you don't like the source.

Do you tell Him that you say these things about men who have committed their lives to serving Him?

I grew up a devout Catholic however that all changed in 2007 when I became separated from my 1st wife and began the divorce proceedings. My so called "Church" informs me that I am living in sin and I can not recieve communion. Why? Because I am divorced and remarried. WTF Ever is my answer. Priest molest boys on a daily basis in this country and yet they recieve and give communion every Sunday during mass. Explain how thats ok?

shite like this infuriates me.

As someone who was actually at this funeral, the denial of communion was only part of it. The offensive thing was the priest leaving the altar during the daughter's eulogy and him walking away from the hearst and refusing to go the burial. At that moment, by his own actions and no one else's, he hurt so many other people besides the one gay daughter, including the deceased's other children, her grandchildren and her friends. There is NOTHING in my Catholic Church's teaching that defends those actions.

I am totally okay with the denial of holy communion. The priest couldn't in good conscience give her the body of Christ. I do not agree with leaving the funeral though. I wonder what the whole story is here.
