Dave Dameshek,"Saints offense would implode without Jimmy Graham."

I really wonder how these people get jobs, it is mind-boggling. Did he forget that we won a superbowl without him?

It's a hot "news" topic. They're just doing their job. It's sad, I know.

If Jimmy Graham isn't super ultra mega vital to our offense, then they couldn't justify talking about it 24/7.

Offseason.

The Saints offense has never relied on just one guy outside of Brees.. and they've been top notch since.

Even when Graham was shut down we were a semi-decent offense. Obviously wouldn't have been great but "implode" is a stretch.

Wish they'd jump back on Seattle's dick for once. I'd rather we garner no attention at all.

Dave also thinks Jimmy is a top 5 player in the NFL so I would expect that's why.

We also had reggie bush in the passing game and a younger Marcus Colston. Also a pretty good running game. We would've been pure shite last year without Graham.

We'd sure miss his run blocking.

Personally, I would miss him flexing after a 4 yard catch after being manhandled by a 150 Lb. cornerback for the previous 20 plays.

I'd miss 16 flexes a year!

He's gotta be more physical this year. He's finally healthy. He can't let people manhandle him like that. The guy has 60 lbs on almost everyone he goes up against.

Now imagine they don't have 1 great player to focus on. Hell, we should be begging teams to put their Talib on Graham. Our Oline issues last year is what stalled the offense at times.

I agree. As elite as he is, he should be even better.

I'm not sure it's lack of physicality that's Graham's problem, he's proven after the catch he can be very physical. I think teams now know what type of player/assignment that best fits the matchup, so he is going to not get as many easy receptions. Now that Graham is facing good CBs he has to refine his technique. When you are playing opposite of good defenders, everything counts. He's never been a good technical player, and that has a lot to do with being late to the sport/position.

Things that stick out to me:

Breaking on the ball: he doesn't snap to ball very often, he kind of just wait for the pass to get to him. His long arms and tall stature allow him to make great catches by reaching for poorly-thrown balls, but he has to get better at closing on the ball when the pass is in contention with a very good CB.

Anticipation of the hit: I think this is what gives people the idea that he isn't physical. When he is playing close with another defender he tends to clam up before the catch, not utilizing the full extent of his arms (alligator arms). He needs to work at this - it's very un-nerving as a player and not bracing for a hit since you are doing exactly opposite of what human nature is telling you.

Total Offense Rankings:

2013 - 4
2012 - 2
2011 - 1
2010 - 6
2009 - 1
2008 - 1
2007 - 4
2006 - 1

Pretty insane statement that we would implode without Graham.

The difference between good and great IMO. Also, the ONLY thing keeping him from being great. He really has the potential to be so much better.
