Boehner: 'We fought the good fight'

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday admitted defeat in the fiscal debate that resulted in the government shutdown and pushed the nation toward a default, saying it was a "good fight." “We just didn’t win,” Boehner told host Bill Cunningham on Cincinnati radio station 700WLW.

quote:

The GOP, Boehner said, did everything it could do to negotiate with Democrats, but Democrats stood firm. “The House has fought with everything it has to convince the president of the United States to engage in bipartisan negotiations aimed at addressing our country's debt and providing fairness for the American people under ObamaCare," Boehner said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. "That fight will continue."

quote:

"But blocking the bipartisan agreement reached today by the members of the Senate will not be a tactic for us. In addition to the risk of default, doing so would open the door for the Democratic majority in Washington to raise taxes again on the American people and undo the spending caps in the 2011 Budget Control Act without replacing them with better spending cuts." Boehner said that raising taxes is not a viable option, given the state of the nation's economy.

GFY, douchebag.

He's like the coach of a team that's 0-12 that loses by an average margin of 27 points ... telling the fans... "We'll get'em next week!"

If Boehner played poker for a living, he'd be on welfare.

Maybe by some stroke of luck the House will vote against it. I doubt it though

What is he talking about here? Can the Senate unilaterally "raise taxes"? How exactly would that be possible?

Not hard for Democrats to avoid blinking when Ted Cruz would kill any proposed compromise posthaste. He never had a strategy of any sort and he has played tens of millions of people like a fiddle.

Boehner's an idiot. Nobody is ever going to knowingly let the US technically default in the Bond coupon payments. It would nuke the international financial markets. This never should've been on the table.

You can't negotiate with a gun at your head threatening that if you don't get your way you'll pull the trigger....unless you're Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles

I hope the economy keeps tanking and those liberals are out of work for another year.
