SWAT Cop Says American Neighborhoods Are 'Battlefields,' Claims Cops Face Same Dangers As Soldiers In Afghanistan

More of the same, really.

But this quote is really scary:

quote:

We trainers have spent the past decade trying to ingrain in our students the concept that the American police officer works a battlefield every day he patrols his sector.

And based on my experiences within and observations of law enforcement organizations, I can guarantee that his department isn't the only one that thinks like that.

Pat Benetar says "Love Is A Battlefield"

Daryl Gates opened up a fricking can of worms back in the 60's.

ETA: what do you think of this law?

They wear body armor, olive or black fatigues, carry ARs, ride in APCs and perform all-out assaults with the assistance of serial surveillance and sniper cover.

If that isn't military, I don't know what is.

This is so ridiculous it reads like the onion.

These people need to be sued individually. Instructing cops to violate constitutional and state law should result in that piece of shite being held responsible.

being held responsible

When is the 1st and last time that has seriously ever happened?

(and I'm not talking about being re-assigned to "a desk job" or prison guard duty)

(and I'm not talking about "dirty cops" taking money or drugs)

Violation of rights is not something they concern themselves with.

All this rabble about cops is just talk. Nothing will change. Old ladies who vote want us to be "tough on crime."

It rarely happens. It's a problem with the entire civil service, but specifically cops. If you withdraw the immunity they have when acting under the state flag and have a system where you can be fired for frick ups, they won't have any choice but to act prudently. But that will never happen because "cops don't rat on cops" and one would have to be extremely naive to think that that culture is easily broken.

Someone should kick his arse for uttering that bull shite alone.

With respect to most neighborhoods, sure. But no way in hell do they compare to legit combat zones. When cops start dealing with espionage, IEDs, snipers, fundamentalists with a death wish packing plastic explosives, machine guns, mortars, occasionally heavy weapons, etc., then they can sit at that table. If it really was a battlefield then cops would be totally untrained and unequipped to handle it. The fact that they are disproves their entire point.

Yes, our cops routinely have to worry about roadside bombs, terrorist insurgents with rockets and machine guns, little kids wielding AK 47s, etc.

At the worst, they face some gang member who can't hit the side of a barn with a 9mm.

Hey now, it's not his fault a crazy ex-Marine decided to set up shop in the UT belltower. Besides, while Gates and the LAPD are often thought of as the first tactical police unit that just isn't true. Various departments throughout the country had such teams. The gift with Gates is that he took a rough idea, polished it, and turned it into a highly effective tactical asset.
