Obama's "slave house" photo op, turns out to just be a dump. Literally.

Historians claim that the entrance of Slave House on Goree Island where Obama posed for a photo opportunity was most likely only used for disposing of garbage.

Historians point out that the Atlantic Ocean at Goree Island is both shallow and rocky, which would have made it difficult for a slave ship to load its grim cargo at that point.

In the 1990s, Philip Curtin, an emeritus professor of history at Johns Hopkins University and the author of two dozen books on the Atlantic slave trade, became one of the first scholars to question the authenticity of the Slave House.

I guess he really was at home after all. Being where trash belongs and all.

Sorry, but Daily Mail is not a source.

Even if it is not true, it's not like Obama is the one that published the research claiming that it was.

How about from the AP and U.S. News?

quote:

The problem though is that historians say the door faced the ocean so that the inhabitants of the house could chuck their garbage into the water, the preferred means of waste disposal in preindustrial Senegal. No slaves ever boarded a ship through it, they say, because no vessel could have sailed through the rocky shoal that surrounds that edge of the island.

And while the house may have housed slaves, they were likely those belonging to the family who lived there, rather than slaves intended for the trans-Atlantic passage, according to numerous publications as well as three historians of the slave trade interviewed by The Associated Press

No, he's not. But he is the one that decided to have a photo op at a previous garbage dump.

According to the article so did Mandela, Pope John Paul II, Dubya and Clinton. He's in decent company.

Yep. Did the others get the media play that Obama is getting though? And why do you think so, if not?

It's interesting that media latches on to the lie about that place. And not just now, but since they've known it's fake.

So he's showing his reverence for a place of where people disposed of their garbage and polluted the waters? Ironic.
