Posted by CockyInNola24 on 5/23 at 10:27 am
Got my nephews 1st birthday party coming up this Sunday. What are some good gift ideas for a 1 year old?

OT parents - what is something your 1 year old loves/loved? TIA

Kids that age love stackable toys. They also help develop coordination and depth perception.

Developmentally appropriate toys for 12-18 months:

Books for his parents to read him or board books with one or two pictures per page for him to turn pages and name.
Things he can push (trucks, cars, large size, not matchbox)
Simple shape sorters
Big markers
Stacking cups and rings
Pots and pans with large lids and spoons

When he's older, though, you absolutely have to get him a set of drums.

Pack of smokes

He has to fit in somewhere.

Damn shame they don't make candy cigarettes anymore

Serious answer OP.....we got out nephew for his first bday this toy Kawasaki 4 wheeler thing. He could sit on it and scoot around. He could push buttons and it made noises like it was revving the engine, etc. he was a lil too small for it but his mom said a few months later he was loving it.

Bakery across the street from my elementary had two kinds. Ones that were chocolate wrapped in paper and some other chalky kind that was pure melted sugar.

Girls used to get the chocolate ones and decorate every one of them to look like a real cig. With red cherry and a filter. I can't believe our teachers didn't every say anything.

Should be first on list. Look for the books that when you open, each page has a window/tab that you open that hides something.

Or just about any book of short stories Mom and Dad can read to him every night. My SIL and daughter does this every night. Grandson going on 3 years old in July and now able to pick some words out.

I'm thinking a little play pool to put on the deck at my parents lake house, a couple of childrens books, and some learning blocks.

Thanks for the ideas

Depends on the kid but both of mine loved to build shite...so I would always go with some of these.

There are the larger sized lego blocks.
