Last Day of School Thread
Posted by Sorrento Muddbugs on 5/23 at 9:25 am
Anybody else in this boat? My son is finishing up 3rd grade and today is the last day. My wife(his step-mom) puts him on the bus & is happy about not having to wake up too early for the next 12 weeks.

My summer plans are to ship him to his mom(who doesn't work) and/or to my mom who is retired, so no need to pay for a full time summer camp. As of today I have him signed up for 3 short camps, and considering a baseball camp in July.

spending time with your kids is overrated

Put him to work on the farm.

Good luck paying for all those camps and child support to your ex wife. You should instead take the money you'd normally be spending on all three of those short camps and a possible baseball camp and send him and his mom on a vacation with just the two of them. He spends quality time with his mom and he doesn't grow up to beat women.

It sounds like you consider your son to be a burden.

First thing I thought too. Sounds like a stand-up guy.

As a teacher, I could probably tell you and this thread exactly how your child acts in the classroom and exactly what kind of struggles he will have through high school.

Man up and spend time with your kid and also and most importantly, be excited about it!

Guys, give the man a break. He's from Sorrento - he can't help it.

Well I've had my son the whole school year, with his mom (not ex-wife and I don't pay child support with full custody) getting him every other weekend for two days. So this is the best time for her to spend with him. My wife and I work during the week, so him being with my parents is normal. 2 of the camps are church camps, and the 3rd is the Father/son basketball camp at LSU for Father's Day weekend.

He's your son. Spend some father son time with him.

The fact that you have him all year during school is irrelevant.

Wow, you sound like a great dad.

Enjoy them while you have them, it goes fast. In the words of Trace Adkins "You're gonna miss this, you're gonna want this back..."

So you're trying to justify being largely out of your son's life during the summer with the fact that you can afford to arrange it that way? And also, of all the camps that you want to send your kid to, only one involves you spending time with him and that's just for one weekend?
Why are you depriving your ex-wife of quality time spent with her son? He's just as much her's and he is yours. She doesn't work, you and your new wife both work, so you instead give him to your parents often instead of sending him to your ex-wife. Seems to me if she isn't fit to be a good mother and to care for him, you wouldn't trust sending him to her during the summer in the first place so why don't y'all just alternate custody to make it fair to everyone involved?

My child talks some in class, but he also made the Principal's list this nine weeks. I'm not sure what everyone is reading from the OP, but to each his own.

We're reading that it sure as hell looks like you're looking for ways to get rid of your son during the summer.
