Any word on negotiations between DIRECTV and Comcast to offer the Houston affiliate?

Still at a standstill. The crucial part will be getting SuddenLink to agree then there will be too much pressure on DirecTV and Dish to not have CSNH

They will only get a deal done if CSN reduces their price by a good bit.

The satellite and cable companies have said that the channel isn't even close to worth it at its current price. Not enough hardcore viewership in the market.

So the satellite and cable companies feel they aren't losing out on anything at all... and they are right. They have all the leverage.

CSN needs to come down in price if anything is going to get done.

And it COULD take years. Portland has had the same issue for 7 years now. For 7 years they haven't been able to watch their team. Hopefully CSN Houston gets something done before it gets beyond ridiculous like that.

Cable companies want to run CSN Houston as a PPV or extra package channel. Thats really unfair because every other RSN is on basic package. CSNH won't back down and cable companies are content screwing over Houston viewers from seeing their local teams. Damn shame, corporations are bringing this country down.

Why the frick did the Astros move off of Fox Sports to CSN especially if nobody can watch them?

They wanted more exclusivity. They get unlimited re-airs and they are part owners of CSN as well.

Just moved back to Houston and this deal is complete BS. At this point I'm just hoping a deal can get done by November to watch the rockets

That was the hope last summer. Didn't pan out. The other companies have polling data in hand that shows viewers not interested enough in Astros to pay extra. That won't change until the Astros become competitive which, unfortunately, is at least 2 years down the road.

Dish, DirecTv, and ATT Uverse are stonewalling CSNH. Not treating it like typical regional sports networks, theyre mostly at fault here. CSNH doesn't want anybody to have to pay extra for the channel.

Pretty shocking its taken this long, you think the demand to etch Astro games would make someone cave

Because CSN Houston isn't a true regional sports network.

They cover 2 Houston sports teams... yet CSNH wants their channel to be available all through Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

That means everybody in those areas will have their cable or satellite bill increase for a channel with teams the majority if them don't care about.

CSNH won't budge on the areas they want to distribute to, and they won't budge on their price.

CSNH is comparing their channel to other regional sports networks, except those other networks are in a bigger market with better teams with more intense fans. CSNH isn't a true RSN, is in a smaller market, and fans are apathetic about their teams.

The satellite and cable companies don't think the price they are charging is fair based on demand, and they don't think it's fair to make people in states like Arkansas pay for a channel with teams they don't care about.

This is 100% on CSNHouston. I don't blame the cable and satellite companies one bit. It's a bad deal for them and a lot of people who don't want their bill to increase.

There isn't a lot of demand for Astros games.

When the satellite and cable companies conducted their own research to figure out the demand, they were surprised that it was much less than they originally assumed.

They concluded that the fans of the Astros and Rockets aren't very intense fans.

So now CSN Houston doesn't even have the leverage of people's desire to watch the Astros and Rockets.

The cable and satellite companies have all the leverage. If a deal is going to get done, CSN Houston has to either reduce their range of distribution, lower their price, or a combination of the two... because the cable and satellite companies don't need CSN Houston.
