Something both parties would like to keep off the radar?

quote:

Both parties are avoiding the bigger picture … The fact that Democrats and Republicans alike have been using Benghazi as the center of U.S. efforts to arm the Al Qaeda-affiliated Syrian rebels.

Specifically, the U.S. supported opposition which overthrew Libya’s Gadaffi was largely comprised of Al Qaeda terrorists. According to a 2007 report by West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center’s center, the Libyan city of Benghazi was one of Al Qaeda’s main headquarters – and bases for sending Al Qaeda fighters into Iraq – prior to the overthrow of Gaddafi:

I think this is something that certainly needs to be investigated further. This should be the whole reasoning behind the hearings and investigation - FINDING THE TRUTH. It's not a political play at all and the R's need to make that clear. The D's are trying their hardest to paint this as a political play by the R's. The message needs to be simple - Americans deserve to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

It would definitely make sense. Convenient how the crime scene investigators couldnt get there for so long. Just enough time for the important documents to be destroyed.

We talked about this potential issue months ago on here. Some random blog even cited to this board about it.

Do Americans really always "deserve" to know the truth? Is it sometimes in our best interests that some of the machinations of our foreign policy are kept a secret at just about all costs?
Just a thought. not an argument.

Canadian Free Press Article

quote:

Why Syria, why not Iran? II: It’s both, but Syria is the primary target here for this operation. First, look at the bigger picture, look at the so-called “Arab Spring.” Who benefits and by default, who doesn’t? Who is the architect for what’s going on throughout the Middle East and North Africa? Whose agenda is being implemented? To specifically address Benghazi, though, look at the bigger picture here and what is trying to be accomplished. The Obama administration is playing the role of Saudi Arabia’s private army. I think if Americans knew this, they would be outraged. Our service men and women are being sold out as mercenaries for the wants and desires of the Royal family, for the Saudi’s interests. It’s about religious dominance and oil. Who is really benefitting from, say, what’s going on in Egypt? Mubarek is out, and the Muslim Brotherhood is in. Who does that benefit? Saudi Arabia.

I posted that link a long time ago.

If it turns out that we have been arming AQ, as they are the main opposition in Syria, and that this benghazi incident was part of that interaction....

There will be fricking hell to pay for both the Rs and the Ds.

You are arming the terrorists, then tell us you need to restrict our freedoms and rights because there are armed terrorists?

There may be some old fashioned french revolution style guillotines brought out to the mall in DC if it came out.

Arguements of if it is a play or not aside, what pisses me off about that is they are doing this as if a political play is some negative connotation that the Republicans should be ashamed of.

But it's kosher to fly out Sandy Hook victims to introduce a presidential speech at the White House in response to the gun control bill failing.

Why is it that popular mandates and votes are only the final word on an issue when it sides with them?

If its against we need to either try harder or find loopholes in the law to get around that whole democratic process bottleneck to the agenda.

I suppose it's plausible. But it still doesn't explain why they blamed it on the video.

Sure it does...spin. Cant tell the public that the AQ rebels were unhappy about an arms shipment, or a deal went bad and people got killed as we were running guns to Syria.

there would be meltdowns.

We supplied OBL with arms during the Afgan war with Russia. The US has a history of supporting "rebels" to only get bitten by feeding them.

Why come up some lame arse excuse about a youtube video though? Why not just say we got attacked by terrorist on the anniversary of 9/11. No one would bat an eye at that.

Certainly some or even a lot of what goes on can or should be be kept secret. But when something goes terribly wrong and Americans are killed, including a US Ambassador in this case, that is when we as Americans deserve to know the truth.

That reason seems pretty simple - protecting Obama's foreign policy position and record heading into the election.

When we will ever learn they are completely and totally different than us? Their culture, religion, etc are entirely foreign to us. And that is ok. But for us to pick sides and provide military arms to any of them is just foolish. And for us to just appease their culture and attempt to paint it as no different than ours is completely naive and disingenuous.

If so I think it was a stupid and risky political move. Most Americans are ininformed and don't give a frick a foriegn policy. As long as someone with a D behind is name says he's not gonna start another war its all golden.

Probably convenient because the video had actually sparked some protests in other ME areas.

I won't shame you on this conspiracy theory Capt. I find it somewhat plausible based on an initial read.

Nope.

There are rare instances where that's the case.

And anyone who says otherwise is ignorant and/or kneejerk responded without thinking.

Hopefully never, because they aren't.

As long as we are the world's Protector of the Hydrocarbon Resources, we will be embroiled in petty squabbles in that region and forced to pick whichever side the House of Saud tells us to.
