Passport picture for an infant

I can't get any information from the National Passport Information Center regarding this

My 4 week old has her hands in her passport picture. The NPIC's website doesn't say if this is or isn't okay. They have a ton of other rules (and hands can't be in an adult's picture), so not sure if hands are okay for an infant.

Anyone know....yea, I know, it's a reach...

OK, I'll ask....

Why does a 4 week old need a passport?

International travel is my guess.

Probably not OK. We had my little girl's pic taken at Walgreens and took it to the Passport Office and got denied because she had a bow in her hair if I remember right.

Do we really need to monitor travel for a 4 week old when we know the parents are also traveling? Seems pretty ridiculous to me

Employment eligibility verification, maybe?

It's the government. Meaning its a crap shoot depending on what civil servant you end up with. You can do it completely by the rules and still have them turn you down. So my guess would be that something like hands in the photo would be a no go. I would take the time to get a proper pic before even applying.

I recently got my 20 month old daughter a passport.

They were very strict, she couldn't be frowning, no bows, and absolutely nothing obstructing her face. I would say if her hands or in the picture they are going to reject it!

She probably can't find her drivers license and wants to hit the bar scene tonight

well it would be easier to smuggle a baby from another country if a passport wasnt required.

My first passport was when I was an infant. Always wondered if that thing was good for 10 years like normal considering how humorous the ID check would have been comparing my 9 year old self to a baby picture. Alas the opportunity never arose.

It'd be funny if she kept the same infant photo all the way until it expires when she's 10 years old.

Customs agents be all like, "Whaaaaaaaa" when she hands it to them.

That's what I'm thinking too, out of seriously 200 pictures the one that met all requirements has her hands in the pic too. fml.

Oh, she needs a passport because we don't live in the US. I came back home to have her, and we're goiong back home next month.

Baby bombs are the next big thing in terrorism.

Seriously though, I suspect the logic is as a protection against child abduction, but I don't really know or care.

Why would you be taking a 4 week old out of the country???

We have a 3 month old and I wouldn't even think of it.
