Here's a nice read. The guy makes some solid points about both players. Watch the videos and compare the two. Who would you pick IF you had the option?

that's some heavy lifting scouting and comparison. Good read with good points. Recommend for those leery of Mingo as the draft pick.

Mingo

I don't think Jordan played against that good of competition on the Pac whatever it's called now

I defiantly agree. Watch the bama game film. He looked really fast and he never stopped against one of the best lines in the nation.

Yea Clay Matthews played against similar talent we don't want him. What a maroon

so did
Keith Rivers
Keneche Udeze
and Sedrick Ellis

We can pick names all day on who succeed and who failed in the pac whatever.

Point is Dion Jordan put up nearly the exact same stats as Mingo last year in a weaker conference. That is undeniably true

Dion Jordan (consensus top ten pick 2013)

12 games
44 total tackles 26 solo 18 asst.
10.5 TFL
5 Sacks
1 pass break up
1 QB hurry
3 Forced fumbles
LINK

Barkevious Mingo
13 games
38 tackles 21 solo 17 asst.
8.5 TFL
4.5 sacks
3 pass break ups
12 QB hurries
1 forced fumble
LINK

I'd actually say that generally speaking offenses in the pac 12 are significantly more creative and better run than SEC offenses.... And it's not all due to sec defenses. And it's not like the NFLis full of elite sec pass rushers.

agreed and a very good point. Although I feel the O-lines in SEC are very much better than anywhere else. My point was that Dion Jordan isn't an elite pass rusher at least that's just my overall opinion. Better overall player yes. better in coverage, without a doubt. But as far as causing havock in the backfield I feel Mingo is better suited.

Point being that I don't get people that want a pass rusher and are immediately on the screaming Jordan better at it. Which i just don't think is the case.

Guess it depends on what your looking for Better overall player or pass rushing specialist.

That being said Jones I feel has them both beat in both categories, but that shaky injury history...

I'd be happy with any of the three honestly but I don't think Jordan will be there in any case

Yeah, throw in Jones and Ansah... you have 4 guys all with upside high enough to be considered potential stars in the NFL. Each one is very different though. Jones is the only one with substantial conventional 3-4OLB experience. Having to project what these players will do in a fulltime 3-4 role is more common than not. I'll call it draft fortune if one of the top pass rushers is available at all much less have to decide between them.

That's what I've been yelling on this board for a month. How often does this type of opportunity come along. Usually there is maybe one guy. This year there is 4!

And that's a great link with some hard core analysis. Anyone who still hates drafting Mingo now is just biased for no rational reason IMO.

I don't think we'll have to worry about choosing.

Jarvis Jones shouldn't be in that same discussion as those other 3. He is quite the opposite as he put up great numbers in college but performed terrible in his workouts. I would've picked Jordan over Mingo before clicking on that link. Now I am positive I'd take Mingo over Jordan. After looking at both of their game films side-by-side for a good bit, it seems to me that Jordan is nowhere as aggressive as Mingo despite having a little more size. I'll take the raw super-athlete with the better motor and teach him better technique.

precisely people look at Mingo as having a down year because the sack number is so important to them. He was constantly in the backfield. Yes he had trouble fighting off of blocks to record the sack. But the QB hurries stat tells the true tale. He caused havoc and is very disruptive whether he gets the sack or not.

But agreed Jones is the best of both worlds if he can stay healthy

I agree. I have my favorites but I'd be happy if we can get any one of the four.

these people need to realize that a great pass rusher by the name of clay matthews in 2011 had 6 sacks in 15 games.

People have off years, but if they've got the tools to be great and have proven previously they can have a good year. I mean mingo had 8 sacks in 2011, and most project him better as a OLB I think the upside is pretty good.

Both have the tools, if both were available I'd probably go with dion jordan based on the fact that these monstrous tight ends are coming into the league and we need someone who can adequately cover them too. I could be wrong

Yeah depends on what Ryan is looking for. If you want versitilty go with Jordan is your man. Mingo is a one trick pony, but it's a damn good trick.

Personally I'm tired of seeing a QB sit back with three years to throw on our defense with no pressure.

When they paid Tony Romo this year it was because they watched him play during the Saints games

Entire conversation is moot as the junior Butler pain train is going to rape the league.
