You aren't doing it right if you can't make a good living with a degree in accounting.

Libspeak for we don't respect some old slave owning white guys that risked their lives and went broke forming the greatest and most free nation on earth.

American black folks are ruined. The democrats have pumped them so full of bull shite that they believe in magic, apparently.

It reminds me of an interview I read with Donovan McNabb. "Why does Peyton Manning get to win Superbowls and be on Wheaties boxes and I don't," moronically suggesting both that racism somehow was a factor and that people who have things have them because they were given to them.

It saturates "the community." "You didn't build that." The average person has no idea how strong that sentiment is and how many different areas to which it is applied.

"Come up wit some new values?" What? What planet are you from? Anyway, our glorious leader has already done it. "Chicago Mob Family Values." Bon Appetite.

The main thing is that he went to the lion's den. I give him credit for that. If you want people's vote, you need to at least show them that you want their votes.

This. Rand went into a somewhat hostile environment and, I think, handled himself pretty well.

He's getting closer to getting my vote.

I thought it was pretty slick how he worked Farrakhan into his answer in a way that got applause. He showed good political instincts without pandering or abandoning his principles, a la Romney. I doubt that you will ever see Paul doing this.

Seriously, Rand needs to talk to these minority groups on a regular basis. Last month he spoke to a Latino group and this month Howard University. He needs to keep it up. These are very important demographic voting blocks and if he can get 40% of hispanics and 20% of the black vote in 2016 Rand is a shoe in for POTUS.

I hope you mean "ever doing this" as being awkward as Romney was in that video. Rand would be much smoother in that situation.

I think it was smart of Paul to test his speech out on members on the Congressional Black Caucus in order to make sure it would resonate the way he wanted it to.

quote:

Additionally, Paul isn't going into this speech blind: according to sources, he's spoken with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to fine tune his message. "He's spoken a lot with the Congressional Black Caucus as well,"

He handled it beautifully.

Basically the young man that spoke is a victim liberal progressive brainwashing. We have lost the spirit of self-reliance/self-determination that our nation was founded on. It's great for communities to work together to help each other but excessive government control/dependency is something the framers of the Constitution were concerned about.

The kid says "I don't want to be defined by my income"... Wonder if that applies to "rich" people too?

Solid, objective reply by Rand. He also did a good job by explaining it in terms that can be easily understood rather than using political dribble.

First I've seen of that

I like Romney but guys like him will never pull minority votes because they don't understand them and can't communicate with them. I think Rand knows how to communicate with them without coming off as trying too hard or being condescending, Rand actually comes across as genuine and caring about our nation and the people of our nation, which is rare in politics these days.

How should he have answered? The kid obviously has a fundamental philosophical disagreement on the role of government. Rand wasn't going to be able to fully answer that question in a short blipet.

He wouldn't be able to answer the questions that his ideology raises in a Dostoyevsky sized tome. He would go one of two ways...he would describe his vision of a future America with a Randyesque style Government which, at the end of the day, would be identical to the way we currently govern ourselves because this is what government of the people for the people by the people evolves into, or he would try to explain, get frustrated when confronted with the fallacies of objectivism, which are many, and say something to the effect that "it is patently unfair to expect me to describe in detail what my ideal society and government would look like because man has never experienced it and it would be dynamic and change as conditions change". I have heard something along these lines from so many worshippers of Ryan and the Free Market that I no longer even flinch when I hear it because I know that all their philosophy is based on is pre-pubescent angst and a desire to remake the world exactly as it is but in their name. This is why the philosophy of Rand has never been taken seriously because adults who look into realize that it is the philosophy of a 13 year old and as such is dismissed out of hand as it should be. Only those who can't get out of the voice cracking, acne phase of life for whatever reason cling to Rand like a life boat in a storm tossed sea.

Please provide one objective, credible opinion to back this up.

Does anybody realize that the availability of "student aid" has actually cheapened the value of a college education? Some jobs today require a college degree that just a few years ago required merely a HS diploma. Also, should student aid be tied to certain majors? I would rather see an engineering student (or any other highly marketable field) get loans and grants than some professional student majoring in ancient Babylonian art who's going to end up a professional server at the Outback Steakhouse.
