US teargas shipment arrives in Suez | Egypt Independent

As with the jet fighters sent to Egypt; I am sure if it made the news it was done with the permission of the US government and not some back door black market trade. If it were back door, it would not be in any news.

I still don't see anything in that link which supports your thread's title that the Obama administration shipped the teargas canisters to Egypt.

State Department Approved Export of U.S. Tear Gas to Egypt

You don't think the State Dept. keeps tabs on companies that manufacture/sell and ship teargas internationally? Paperwork for inert international shipments is bad enough, but I would imagine shipping anti-riot gear would raise a few eyebrows in the local Wilmington customs office.

"Keeping tabs" =/= the government providing the teargas.

Where does it say these are provided by the the U.S. Government?
It appears they are purchasing them...could it just be good old capitalism?

The Peace Prez is just making more friends in the Arab world. At least the Arabs are only having to deal with breathing problems, we are dealing with a problem that involves a shite load of lead poisoning being possible.

The sale had to be approved by the State Department.

Even if true, the U.S. taxpayer did not provide the teargas to the Egyptians which is what I thought had happened when I saw the thread title.

I'm not saying the US govt gave Egypt teargas, I'm saying it approved the shipment to an unstable country with a notoriously unpredictable and fundamentalist regime. The State Dept and the Administration will ultimately be culpable when this turns out to be a bad move.

Redundant. It is like wondering if they used any of the billions of dollars we the tax payers gave them to purchase the tear gas. You would have to ask the MB if they used their own money they earned from side terrorist jobs, or not?

That is the main point I would object to and since that didn't happen I'm....meh.

Are you against all foreign aid? Or are you against foreign aid that results in the oppression of another people? Or are you against foreign aid to people you don't like who oppress people you like and for foreign aid to people you like who oppress people you don't like?

How far we've fallen. It wasn't that long ago that the U.S. government giving 2,000 TOW missles to Iran, and chemical precursors to Iraq was considered "advancing American interests"...now we're bitching about teargas.

Thanks Obama.

That's my point. We give, or give approval to sell, weapons to unstable or totalitarian governments that we end up fighting within the following 2 decades. This has been the US's foreign policy for the last 40 years.

If you look at the post just above the answer is clearly no since I oppose all foreign aid....I'm just curious to the specifics as related to you. Can you answer the question(s)?
