In a nutshell I think this is probably it. Once we lost to Bama there really was no way we were going to reach the SEC goal or NCG goal.

Not to say the team didn't play hard but there just didn't seem to be the same fire or nastiness, especially with the defense.

Also, what was VASTLY different between 2011 and 2012 was we DID NOT put teams away when we had the chance. We blew leads and sort of were comfortable with what we had. Might have been the loss of TM7 but if just wasn't there in 2012.

I agree with others, our offense was pretty rough which didn't help. Too much time on the field will eventually wear them down and it happened.

As has been mentioned, 2012 is history, but as Tiger fans it is always good discussion.

I think there are several valid reasons that others have mentioned here already, but one trademark of all Miles coached teams is a fundamental lack of discipline. Saban won't allow his players to play if they are not giving their all. Miles allows it. I think Chief is a disciplinarian. Miles, not so much. I would love to have been a fly on the wall during the post game speech by Miles after each of the last 2 games against Bama. Also, why did so many underclass men declare? Lack of confidence in the leadership or money? Or a combination of the two....

Every year if we lose to Bama we kinda give up the rest of the season. It's just 1 game, just put it in the rear view mirror, & move on!

You must not remember South Carolina and A&m's final drives. Or bama's drive at the end of the first half. But hey, everyone's happy because Stud is no longer the OC.
You can go back further and see the end of the UNC game and bama 2010 as well. Those are just a few that come to mind.
I think we have a major defensive issue. Nick was nice enough to point it out after the game this year so hopefully the Chief adjusts.

This would be correct.

Defense wore down and the secondary was exposed. Got soft up front.

Yeah the main goal was out of reach. Like it or not, the Bama game is basically the de facto title game. (Cue everyone citing 2011)

I find it hard to digest that LSU football players would just quit. It may be true but so hard to accept just given what a privilege it should be to play for an elite program. If this was the case then I'm glad the guys who were saving themselves for the pros are in the pros.

Yeah, they appeared to give more effort in the final three games than they did vs Towson.

Lack of motivation. After the "Bama loss and no chance to compete for the NC or even the SEC title, they were going through the motions.

Defensive penalties lost us the bama and clemson games. Nick sabans lsu teans were akways the most penalized in the sec. 03 was top 3 in the country.

The diff is bama, not the coach.

I agree with what you said here. Our offensive game plan consisted of 3 and out. The defense wore down in games because the offense constantly put the defense back on the field.

They don't just quit. They still have that competitive drive during the game. After all, the game is the fun part. It's practice where you see the lack of motivation. Why stay that extra hour watching film? Why do those extra reps of weight training? You're not in the hunt anymore, so the extra preparation just isn't worth the reward.

They show up on Saturday and play hard. It's the rest of the week that hurts the team, the part that's not televised.

Vs. Bama the O was on the field 40 mins.

Vs. Miss St the O was on the field 32 mins.

Vs Miss the O was on the field 32 mins.

Vs Ark the O was on the field 30 mins.

While the O has been disappointing, I'm hard pressed to by into the D wore out thought process.

It's a long season. It does wear you down. The D line suffered and the secondary was exposed.

with admissions of taking certain games off, that mentality, tolerated by coaches, somehow crept into a game that they werent supposed to take off, at least not until the game was won, but it wasnt won, the coaches probably gave the nod to relax a little early. oversimplified but you get the point, that mentality isnt always controllable, prepare for more good teams but not great teams, sorry to say but the guy at the top may not really understand football as well as he articulates ideas.

Yeah, he knows a hell of a lot more than you and i do. we wouldnt be posting about it on an anonymous message board if we could truly be a head coach of a top notch program. You are way off base here. Im sure the coaches said, ease up guys, dont put forth 100% effort. Thats bull shite.
