Why do you cook?
Posted by Kantz on 3/18 at 11:42 pm
The red velvet threads got me thinking..

I love cooking. I love experimenting and having fun in a kitchen. I love trying new things and seeing if they work. I love cooking things I've made a thousand times before and relaxing and having a cold beer. I love cooking because its fun..

What about yall?

It's fun, it's easier to eat healthfully if you cook, and it's a great way to get into a cute girl's panties.

I'm absolutely fascinated with cooking, and the love began early. As a young kid I would pull up a chair so that I was tall enough to see what was happening on the stove. The obsession with cooking has never ceded.

Exactly the same here. We had a place here in town when I was a kid that my mom would get fresh shrimp from. This was back in the mid/late 70s and the shrimp were so fresh. I helped my mom head and peel them and also liked to find the little fish and teeny ocean creatures (usually little crabs) that were in the bag with them. That's where it all started for me.

For me, being in the kitchen was far better than television at that time, and still is.

I loved being in the kitchen as a kid too. When I was 16 we moved to Ohio, and I had a tough time dealing with the move. Every Saturday my dad and I would cook something new and watch football. It remains one of my favorite memories and helped me cope with the difficulty of moving.

I came up with my first recipe when I was 9. It could possibly be the worst thing ever, but hey, its mine. I called them Crouton-o's. I'm here to share that recipe for the first time ever..

Ingredients
a bunch of croutons
shredded cheese
baco bits

Directions
place croutons on a baking sheet sprinkle cheese on top and finish with baco bits on top. place in oven and melt cheese. eat and enjoy.

I've come a long way since then

Same here from the simplest things to more complicated. It's a challenge I enjoy and it's a stress reliever. I'm completely immersed when cooking. I liken it to other people's hobbies like sports or hunting. I love reading about cooking, food and restaurants. I would benefit from researching other things as much as I do food, cooking and restaurants.

I started because of financial reasons, but now it's more because you just can't get this kinda food just anywhere. It's fun and my biggest reward is watching my family go back for seconds.

You don't have to cook in order to eat, but thanks, that was very insightful.

I'm new here and I don't want a reputation of being pissy and getting into sarcasm matches. So, all I'm going to say is if you don't have a constructive response please just move along.

Are pb&j sandwiches considered cooking? Your not applying any heat. Just assembly.
