Why is the left so willing to cut military spending but nothing else?

No desire to cut any entitlements or have have any kind of reform. Yet they're more than willing to think spending is a problem when it comes to military?

Is that not one of the key roles of government? I'm not going to sit here and say that we don't spend too much bc I'm not sure what we spend or what we should spend on military. It just bothers me that the only time this country has a spending problem, in their opinions, is when talking military

We should make massive cuts to military, which has plenty of "entitlement" programs and superfluous bull shite.

That being said, the military should not be the only program that gets diced.

You're painting the "left" with a pretty broad brush there. Since I'm purportedly a "liberal" according to this board ( ), I can tell you that I favor reductions in spending not only for defense, but for entitlements as well. I also think there is a lot of bureaucratic waste that can be eliminated. Shocker, huh?

You've never seemed to be bothered by anything that Obama and the Democrat Party have done since 2007, so, yes, your post here seems not only shocking, but, also, disingenuous.

Yet you keep voting for people that increase spending, not decrease.

Please don't bring common sense into the discussion.

To be fair, unless you didn't vote or voted 3rd party, this applies to most people on this board.

Did you not vote for Congress, past POTUSs and potential POTUSs too? If you did why did you vote for increased spending and not decreased spending(projected budget cuts doesn't since the money doesn't and therefore can't be cut).

Hmmm, I have consistently said that we need some serious entitlement reform. I've also posted that Obama has disappointed me as a president with his aloof approach and lack of acumen when it comes to Congress. I have also said that Reid and Pelosi are pains in the arse and do Obama far more harm than good.

So, I'm not so sure what you've been reading or if perhaps you only partially pay attention. I will acknowledge that I have voiced my opinion that much of the criticism leveled toward Obama is waaaaayyyyy over the top and just silly.

It goes back to the 60s. 'Guns/Butter'. 'Military Industrial Complex.'

It also gets into Meyers-Briggs personality categories. People in the military grade out as very 'right/wrong'...leftists see things 'shades of gray'. They are exact opposites.

This is why lawyers defending a client who has committed a murder reject military people during vois dire.

Same thing about 90% of the Repubs... Why are they only willing to cut social programs and not defense

Shift the money from military to entitlements to buy more Democratic votes.

The left wants government to help people. Unnecessary military spending just helps defense contractors. It can be cut with a clean conscience.

OK, thanks for the clarification. Seems reasonable to me.

Shifting gears a bit, let me ask you: Where do we go from here? You are convinced that FedGov will not stop increasing spending no matter which party is in control. So, I suppose that you support the Democrats because their social policy agenda is more agreeable, largely because it is unencumbered by Rightist Religionists?

And, in your opinion, where will unleashed and unrestrained FedGov activism and spending lead us? Many will tell you that it will lead us to Utopia. What say you?
