Hotel Experience - minority immunity
Posted by Francis Marion on 3/17 at 8:22 am
Staying at the Embassy Suites at San Antonio International Airport, they have a pool area and a free bar from 5:00 to 7:30. Keep in mind this isn't some dive hotel but a pretty decent place.

Last night I noticed a much larger presence in the bar area and an audible roar, there were children running unsupervised and playing on the elevators and the pool area was a veritable madhouse.

It was clear large numbers of these people (all Hispanic) were not quests but drinking the free liquor while their kids destroyed the place, I saw a group of 15 or so leave out the back entrance with their towels to go to their vehicles and leave at about 1030.

When I informed the management of the situation they said, "it happened often and it was better to let it run its course than to confront them."

Sad

Manager needs to grow a spine and call the cops. That shite would end muy pronto.

Or, better still, the manager could just institute a policy whereby you need to present a room key to access the free booze and pool area. Problem solved.

I asked the same thing, they said that one or two in the group would get a room and they would all pass the key around and let the children in the back entrance, if confronted they just throw out the race card.

And like everything else, the rates for those who book a room there must be high enough to cover amenities for those who don't.

eta: maybe instead of a room key, they should require a room receipt and set up a "free" tab for guests. Receipts generally have a transaction number, so one receipt couldn't be passed around. Don't know what they'd do about the pool problem, though, lol

So they pay over $200 to get "free" drinks and use the pool? I find that hard to believe. Maybe you misinterpreted what you were seeing or I am misunderstanding what you are saying.

You should have informed them that you will no longer be staying in their hotel

Unless they move the airport the hotel is probably in pretty good shape.

But avoiding confrontation with aggressive minorities isn't uncommon with management in many public accomodations and service industries.

And now that management has informed him of that, the hotel will be liable if one of these "allowed guests" ends up doing something to a paying patron of the hotel.

The other sad thing is they are also probably immuned to any police pulling them over for DWI with kids in the car.

What are "aggressive minorities"? Nothing in this topic suggests that the people involved were in any way aggressive. Except that they were "obviously" not staying at the hotel. Oh, but they had a room key.

I usually agree with you on most things slut but you got this one wrong.

An old white man's and woman's statement to the police about what happened concerning a confrontation won't hold water against the 47 Messicans that will claim that the old folks are lieing and making shite up.

Why do you think they were not confronted by the management? Because of their amiability? Lack of litigiousness? Unlikely to play the race card or cause a greater disturbance?

I'd imagine that there are cameras everywhere in a hotel lobby/bar

And my statement was just in general. The manager opened themselves up to a liability issue... "We know they aren't supposed to be here and they are unruly, but we aren't going to do anything about it"

The hotel could easily solve this problem with issuing a "free drinks" card to each guest upon check-in--with a drink limit. Set it up so liquor and beer have to be provided/served by a staff member. The card gets punched by the staff member every time you use it.

Another option is to water down the booze and then spread the rumor that the booze is MUCH better at the nearby Holiday Inn. Problem solved.
