Question about LOST season 6 (definite spoilers inside)
Posted by WG_Dawg on 3/16 at 12:09 pm
The only time I've watched season 6 is when it was on live, so it's been a while and can't quite remember. I know we are introduced to the "flash sideways" and have 2 storylines going, the FS and one that is on the island. I know the FS is their "holding area" timeline where they wait to pass on together. But remind me again about the on island timeline as it relates to detonating the bomb in the S5 finale. If the bomb did go off, everyone would've been surely killed. Am I right to assume that if the bomb did go off, that would be our flash sideways right? So is the on island timeline in S6 assuming the bomb did not go off?

The bomb went off. That's why women can't have children on the island.

Looking back, the whole Temple thing sucked and was a giant waste of time.

The Bomb went off, but all it did was ensure the creation of the Swan and transported the Losties in the future. Despite what it seems, the Incident and the Sideflashes are not connected directly. The Sideflashes were the afterlife, a place that was built so they could find one another before moving on.

So how can there be an on island story since the bomb would've destroyed everyone and everything?

It wouldn't have killed everyone on the Island. The combination of the bomb and the natural electromagnetic components on the Island started a whole new energy trend on the Island, starting with moving the Losties back into the present.

The bomb was a red-herring for changing the timeline. All it did was affect the island properties and transport them back to the present. The sideways wasn't an alternate timeline it was purgatory.

I have a question. Was lying about the Oceanic 6 to the media really necessary in the end? With the exception of Sawyer, Miles, Jin and Richard all of the other people they came back for died (every single red shirt, Jin, etc). Not only that, but 2 people who were already safe (Sun, Sayid) died returning. Widmore eventually found his way back to the island and it wasn't the end all be all they made it out to be.

That's because the MIB was tricking Ben into thinking it would be. Let's not forget Ben hated Whidmore and was afraid of him, the last thing he wanted was for him to come back to the island, so it was easy for the MIB to manipulate him.

They had no way of knowing what would happen. They never thought they'd go back to the island, so by the same token, was leaving the island in the first place really necessary? All it did was frick up a lot of shite and make Claire turn into a crazy person.

It also prevented women from carrying children to term on the island.

Who would have believed them? Maybe not to protect the Island, but the Island needed to still be kept a secret. I'm wondering how crazy the world went after the second crash though, and finally Kate's return with a bunch of other strangers. Kate probably would have been one of the 5 most recognizable faces in the world after that, and no telling how many History Channel spin-off documentaries would result from it.

I know the FS is what would've happened had oceanic 815 never crashed in the first place.

well now i'm confused, i thought the FS was their place that they created in the afterlife to find each other so they could move on together or whatever

You right. He wrong. Jack wouldnt have magically inherited a son had the crash not happened

I knew the FS was a "holding period" waiting to pass to the afterlife together, I think I just didn't correctly articulate what my brain was thinking. I moreso meant just that they never have a plane crash, not necessarily that they get on oceanic 815 like in the pilot and it doesn't crash.

Btw since we're asking questions..why the hell does jack not ever dry his body off after a shower before putting a shirt on? I've seen two and maybe 3 times during the show where he'll step out of a shower and instantly throw a shirt on. My God that would be uncomfortable.

This was my case until the last 3 days (finished last night). I thought the Temple was 100x more bearable this time around.

I still find it strange that the FS was the place they created. I can understand Hurley going from unlucky to "nothing bad ever happens to me. I'm the luckiest guy on earth." Sawyer was also a nice transformation. But Jack's, certainly Sayid's, and some others' FS lives weren't some glorious creation, rather quite miserable actually. Jack was divorced and, up until the last week, was a terrible father. Sayid wasn't with the love of his life, Nadia (Let's not even get started on Sayid/Shannon ). And the list goes on.

I did like the way they "discovered" their real lives in the flash moments, but it would have seemed to me that their created/FS lives would have been more blissful.

I think that had more to do with where they were at personally in the real world. Sayid was struggling between being MIB's bitch and being a good person. Jack was running around breaking mirrors. Sawyer had succumbed to destiny after Juliet died.

I have to admit. When I was watching this show live, I really wanted every question to be answered and for the show to come to some sort of finality, which I think it did a pretty good job of doing. Now after it has ended and I look back at it, I think I would have enjoyed it much more long term if they would have ended it on some sort of cliffhanger like they had for just about every previous episode. Some of their answers they gave us just did not satisfy me. For example when Michael came out of the woods and was like "were the voices" , I thought that was stupid
