Lost a Bass of a Lifetime Today Posted by rballa19 Came to Toledo this weekend even though it's cold as shite. Was slow Rollin a spinnerbait in about 4 foot of water and hooked up. The wind was blowin me fast towards the fish and she was runnin straight towards me. I was reeling as fast as I could to keep up. When I finally caught up to it it was right in front of my trollin motor. When she came up all I could do was stammer get the net. Fish was huge, well into double digits huge! My buddy grabbed the net and I brought around to the left side of the boat and she stayed right on top of the water. As he was reaching in with the net she turned back to the right and my spinnerbait flew out her mouth and he stabbed at her with the net. He got almost half of her in but it was the tail end and she stroked her tail once and was gone. I've never been so sick in my life. Couldn't stop shaking for 20 minutes. I was cussin like a mother fricker. I've caught a 7, and netted three 7s,and an almost 9 and this fish was considerably bigger than those. My estimate was around 12 and my buddy thinks it could have been bigger. She was so fat she couldn't swim fast. I just hope I can hook in to another one that big one day. Reply Back to Top
I hate hearing that..... Reply Back to Top
It's gonna take a while to get over that. I told my buddy, I don't even think I'd be happy if I caught an 8 or 9 pounder Reply Back to Top
That happens man you will get another chance eventually. Reply Back to Top

I lost an 11 pound 8 oz bass when I was 12. I am still not over it. I hooked it right at the boat and yelled to my brother to grab the net to which he replied. "I think I left it on the bank" I used to fish 6 -9 hours a day back then and I knew It was over 10 pounds. About 3 minutes later she threw the worm. How do I know she was 11 pounds 8 oz? I week later in the same exact spot another guy caught an my fish and it weighted 11 pd 8 oz bass. (LOL) Reply Back to Top
damn, hate to hear that. It would have made a good fish fry Reply Back to Top
Replace Bass with Catfish, and 12lb with 15+ and this story mimics thr one my wife almost caught this morning, with me on the net. Only difference is it snapped the line between the cork and hook as my brother in law tried to pull it up so I could net it. The poor people of Lafitte and the things they had to hear shouted this morning. Only freaking fish on this morning too. Reply Back to Top
Lost a BIG one last year, I still think about it Reply Back to Top
Seeing big deer does this to me. Time will pass but you'll never forget about it Reply Back to Top
Was it a striped bass? I didn't read the whole thread. Reply Back to Top

Definitely a largemouth. I wouldn't be near as upset about losing a striper that weighed in the teens Reply Back to Top
Sorry to hear about losing the big one. Give it a name and go back to the same spot to even the score. Last year I lost a big bass on a spinnerbait but kept going back to the spot. A few months later, I caught the bass below. Reply Back to Top
Sorry to hear, but now you have an excuse to keep goin. I caught an 8.1 last Sunday and hopefully catch a double digit next weekend. Reply Back to Top
Same thing happened to me two years ago. My buddy bent over with the net in the water and mid scoop the bait flung out. Bad knot in my part. It doesn't bother me at all though. I laugh at my buddies reaction every time I think about this because as he was putting the net in the water it came up and he instantly goes WHOOAAA! His reaction was priceless. I haven't caught a ton of big bass. My biggest was probably 6lbs. This one was in the 9-10 range. But let's be honest, everybody's biggest bass got away. Reply Back to Top
