Thanks for the additional comments everyone. A couple more questions:

1. What websites do recommend for watching games?

2. What are some of the nastiest rivalries? You know the ones I'm talking...I don't mean health rivalries. I mean nasty.

I'll answer 1: wiziwig.tv and watchespn.com are great

2: west ham - Millwall
Liverpool - Man U
Inter - AC Milan
Real Madrid - Barca
Roma - Lazio
Boca - River Plate (Argentina)
La galaxy - Chivas USA

There are many others, I'm sure others will be happy to list them.

www.firstrowsports.eu is my goto one. Atdhe isn't bad if first row isn't working for me.

For rivalries, Tottenham Hotspur/Arsenal is one, ManU/Man City, Marseille/PSG, Shalke/BvB, BvB/Bayern probably, Rangers/Celtic, and internationally Germany/Holland.

Nice! Thanks, cwil and bob.

Looks like Tottenham and Arsenal play this Sunday, so I'll definitely check out that one.

Alright, one last question. I hope I'm not wearing out my welcome.

I realize that Manchester United is up 12 points with about 11 games to go. Seems like a lot of people are saying Manchester City has very, very little chance of catching them. But it seems to me that a lot can happen in 11 games. Is that 12 point lead really that much to make up in 11 games?

Yes, it's over.

Without even bothering to look at the fixtures list, Manchester United has only dropped 13 points through 27 games. They play 38. 12 points is an enormous league lead for any large European club.

There's very little parity between the best teams in European leagues and the worst. In the NFL, a hugely parity driven league, if New England loses to St. Louis in the regular season, it's surprising but not a historically significant upset. If Queen's Park Rangers (worst team in the league) beat Manchester United, it's seen as a monumental victory for QPR. This is largely because, the gulf in class and player salary an between the two teams in so vast.
(Although, QPR has a larger than normal salary for a crappy team.) It would take Manchester United drawing several games to vastly inferior teams, and losing to a few teams around its talent level.

As a counterpoint, MLS is usually a much less predictable league, in part because of a salary cap and playoff system that encourages parity.

The reason EPL can't be the SEC is because the teams aren't strong enough compared to the top teams from other leagues.

The reason some people say the EPL is the SEC is because there is more parity in the EPL than other leagues. But the SEC has parity because it has a lot of teams that are best in the country. EPL has parity because most of it's top teams are relatively comparable, it makes for good league play, but it doesn't mean anything.

Today what you say is true.

For most of the last decade though the EPL's top teams were the best in Europe.

Yea I absolutely agree. But I think the last half decade things have changed. Likely not permanently, but that's how things are atm. Like someone said, these things are cyclical.

Um, EPL teams have been in the Champions League Final 7 of the past 8 years and have won 3 of those.

No other league can match that record; not La Liga, not Serie A, not the Bundesliga. Barca has of course won it all three times and been in a class by itself but that speaks more to Barca than it does La Liga.

La Liga = Big East/Pac-12 in late 90s early 00s
Barcelona = Miami/USC in late 90s early 00s.

Yes. Probably not going to happen for City this year.

Also, since it's opening day and all ... MLS >>>>>>> EPL/La Liga/Bundesliga.

Pep spent his sabbatical in new York so he could scout the MLS for ideas.

I'm liking this faux villain iteration of Leauxgan. We just need an actual Mexicano to buy into the trap.

I'll pick up this pilot for a six episode midseason replacement on NBC.

less than 50 percent success rate. Pretty damned shitty.

I think one demonstration of the EPL's superiority is World Cup roster placements. In 2010, it had over 100 players on WC rosters and Italy was second with 75.
