| For saving the franchise, should the Pelicans retire Chris Paul's jersey? Posted by GrandeBeli Do you think this team would have lasted in the city without his success and what the 2007-2008 season did for the fanbase? Hatas gonna hate on him for wanting out(even though I don't blame him), but without Chris Paul's amazing run in the Crescent City the team wouldn't have survived. Reply Back to Top |

| Would not have survived? How can we know? We don't have the vision of an alternate universe to see the other side of that spectrum. This post was edited on 2/17 at 12:23 pm Reply Back to Top |

| I get that, I do. But why retire a jersey of someone who didn't win anything while on the team? I could understand if they took a ring or something but in actuality, that team was just a good team that couldn't get over the hump. If they'd have drafted better years prior we wouldn't be having this discussion. Reply Back to Top |
| I hope so. I just scored a legit authentic CP3 yellow NOLA jersey from TJ Maxx for $7.99 Reply Back to Top |
| Miami retired Jordon's jersey. That said, no. There is no reason. Retire Benson's jersey, or Stern's. Reply Back to Top |

| Not anytime soon. Reply Back to Top |
| Don't know about retiring his jersey, but it's tough to argue that he didn't build fan interest, perhaps to the critical mass needed, in this city. Reply Back to Top |
| but he hates the name pelicans frick him Reply Back to Top |

quote: I'm sure the pity parties given by the media for the team helped keep them here as well. almost 8 years later and the city is still "recovering" like it's been 2 months since Katrina Reply Back to Top |
quote: So . . . Katrina had a bigger effect on saving the team in the city than fueling relocation stuff with all the team playing elsewhere for 2 years and moving over 100,000 out of the city for years thing? Oh, and death cures cancer, right? Reply Back to Top |
| Stern stepped in after Katrina to make sure didn't leave the city for good....who knows if he would've been so committed had the hurricane never came and the arena stayed half full! Reply Back to Top |

quote: You are hilarious. What about the Utah? If they didn't accept the Jazz graciously, we wouldn't have the Hornets here at all to save? Oh, how about LaSalle? What would the jersey number for the creation event be? 1? Reply Back to Top |
| Or George Shinn for wanting to bring the franchise here to begin with. Great man! Reply Back to Top Refresh |
