Durant won't always heave buzzer beating half court shots
Posted by Nonetheless on 2/13 at 1:58 pm
If Lebron admitted to this before winning a ring, he would've been crucified relentlessly. I'm sure Durant isn't the only one to feel this way, but still.

For the record, I don't care he feels this way. I'm sure most players do.

quote:

“It depends on what I’m shooting from the field. First quarter if I’m 4-for-4, I let it go. Third quarter if I’m like 10-for-16, or 10-for-17, I might let it go. But if I’m like 8-for-19, I’m going to go ahead and dribble one more second and let that buzzer go off and then throw it up there. So it depends on how the game’s going.”

i love how guys heave it up as soon as the buzzer sounds. like they were trying to get the ball off but had to take an extra 4 uncontested dribbles first.

bottom line is people like durant. hes a sweet boy who kisses his momma and cries when he loses in the finals. rules simply arent applied evenly across the board. certain people get passes, certain people do not. 2 people can do/say the exact same thing, and it can be perceived completely different. just the way it is....

I have a friend who runs stats for the Thunder, he says Durant asks for his shooting percentage every time he checks in.

I really hope that's a tongue-in-cheek comment. For the second best player in the game, you wouldn't expect Durant to care about something as trivial as his shooting percentage. This is as statistically shameful as Ricky Davis intentionally missing a shot to boost his rebounding numbers.

This makes me think less of him. Not that he gives a frick.

Does he have any contact incentives for shooting a certain percentage?

LeBron does the exact opposite. If he's having a poor shooting night, he doesn't care about his percentage, but, if he's shooting well, he'll hold that shot or pass to a teammate, usually too late for them to shoot it too.

Last year I think the entire Heat team was on a protect of half court heaves. Even Mike Miller would pocket them. Strange stuff.

Did he say he holds them? I thought he just advocated not counting it as a shot attempt unless it went in, similar to fouls.

I see it in almost every game I watch and every player does it, dumb to say though. Hate when guys get the ball with 2 seconds uncontested and don't even bother to attempt a 1/2 court shot.

This doesn't bother me at all, unless he's stubborn enough to not throw it up at the end of the game for a tie or win.

Okay, 1 second left and we're down three. Kevin, you get the inbounds pass and try it from half court.

"Nah, corch, gotta keep that percentage up, yaheard?"

(I know KD doesn't talk like that, but it's funnier in my head that way)

i'm sure he throws them up in close games

I'm sure he does too (as I'm sure anyone would). But I have no problems with someone not doing it in like the first quarter or something like that.

They should just stop recording past half-court shots as an attempt unless it goes in.
