I didn't really think Celtic played "little club tactics".

Overall, I thought Celtic were very well-coached and prepared in what they tried to do (aside, I suppose, from the obvious fact that plays into Juve's strength to press them). Celtic just have nowhere near the quality Juve does anywhere on the pitch.

In fact, that Celtic came out guns ablazin' and trying to press Juve deep led to the early goal and that they never really dropped everyone deep in their own area is more why they lost 3-0 and risked even worse.

I'd also defend that Celtic CB that made the two mistakes. The two errors were certainly costly but it may have been more the "law of averages" considering the quality of Juve's counters.

Otherwise, he did a very sound job keeping Vucinic from holding up possession and spraying his usual deadly passes to all the midfield runners or back to Pirlo in space. I've seen Juve quite a bit this year and many respected CBs have fared a lot worse. I'm sure his more imposing physical/athletic play was why he was chosen.

Celtic deserves credit for risking an home thrashing on such a big stage by not going into a complete shell and facilitating what I found to be a pretty exciting match.

If there's any criticism as far as "small team tactics," it's that Celtic's degree of simulation, from begging for cards and free kicks over clean tackles to the little extra kicks on Pirlo seemed more befitting the script of Central American WC qualifiers at times.

?

Cheap shotting pirlo over and over, leaving a leg in on marchisio but missing, stomping on marchisio, and this was from their captain.

Don't get me started on a dude designated in impeding Buffon. Is that the only way to score on a corner?

It was cheap. Cheillini will be back for the home game, as well as asamoah when it comes to quality. Georgio isn't going to stand for cheapshots, he will gladly take a red on somebody.

Without a good striker we aren't getting past barca, real, or bayern anyway.

maybe so, but i'd rather bayern not get drawn with barca or juve until the semifinals. i think both FCB's and Juve are the 3 best teams in the world right now. i've probably only gotten to watch barca and juve 8 times total this season, but have yet to see either side play that badly.

"Little club tactics," to me, are things like time wasting, rotating the fouler, sitting deep with no intention of going forward or pressing, etc.

From what I've read, Celtic played ambitiously. I only watched about 30 minutes of the match, but I didn't perceive anything to contrast that.

Naturally, when a squad is outmatched technically, it will rely on size/physical strength at points in the match.

I agree with everything you say and pointed those things out. They played about like Central American teams people complain about in terms of all the cheap shot fouling, trying to knock Buffon around on corners, diving etc and, yes, their captain was the worst offender.

I was simply pointing out that, as absolutely over matched as they were in terms of quality, they certainly didn't pack back into a shell and pray for a 0-0 result -- which is worst for a casual fans' enjoyment of the match -- and deserve some credit for that.

Oh and Daje Roma.
