Rove still does not get it

He gets it, you don't. This is much less about politics than it is gaining attention for his PAC.

Republicans may not have to worry about Judd after all. It seems that she's having trouble getting the blessings of the Democratic powerbrokers.

You have to wonder if Rove's early shot across the bow has gotten into their heads.

Exactly. This is an easy "victory" for Rove that he can attach himself to (since we all know this Judd thing isn't going anywhere) but provides the requisite publicity to help himself still look like a kingmaker.

Whether you like or hate Judd, whether you or a Democrat or Republican, you can't honestly like the way our system works at the moment, can you? It's so fricking far removed from the people, liberal and conservative, in my opinion.

why are early attacks on GOP candidates smart when DEMs do it, but when the GOP does it, it's desperate?

the GOP is just following the trends that the DEMs started

Exactly, why the GOP is just figuring this out is amazing. First impressions are very important. If they can define the candidate before the Dems can then the Dems have an uphill battle to redefine the candidate in voters minds.

Now if they can figure out that they should stop talking about trillions of dollars of debt. Rather, they should personalize it by saying the average tax payer owes the gov't about $147,000. then they will help their cause.

Judd announced via twitter yesterday that she won't challenge McConnell for his senate seat. She was having a hard time getting the backing of Kentucky's Democratic powerbrokers and once the Clintons pooh-poohed her chances of beating McConnell, she knew it wasn't going to happen.

quote:

“After serious and thorough contemplation, I realize that my responsibilities & energy at this time need to be focused on my family. Regretfully, I am currently unable to consider a campaign for the Senate. I have spoken to so many Kentuckians over these last few months who expressed their desire for a fighter for the people & new leader. While that won’t be me at this time, I will continue to work as hard as I can to ensure the needs of Kentucky families are met by returning this Senate seat to whom it rightfully belongs: the people & their needs, dreams, and great potential. Thanks for even considering me as that person & know how much I love our Commonwealth. Thank you!”

There are some folks who wonder why she's not running for Congress, since the Tennessee district that she actually lives in is taylor-made for her.

Comparing just about everything you disagree with to rape will do that.

Winona fell far away from the DNA tree that produced mom and her step-sister.

Certainly this moment didn't help her convince donors that she could relate to everyday Kentucky folks.

quote:

a Hollywood actress with lots (and lots) of public statements that are totally fine when made by an entertainer but simply don’t work in the context of a political campaign.

One example: At a women’s health forum at George Washington University earlier this month, Judd said the following: “We winter in Scotland. We’re smart like that.” Using the word “winter” as a verb is almost never a good thing in politics, particularly at a time when many people in Kentucky continue to struggle amid a halting economic recovery.

Some of her not-so-politician-sounding moments didn't go unnoticed by her would-be competition. Brad Dayspring, a strategist at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, jumped on a comment Judd made about how she once told the musician, Bono, that she and her ex-husband would travel during the winters.

"We winter in Scotland," she said. "We're smart like that."

Dayspring wasted no time: "A true woman of the people," he posted on Twitter, referring to her comment.

"I wonder if Ashley Judd will 'winter in Scotland' this year," he also wrote. "Tough to run a #KYSEN campaign from the UK."

Just taking a page from the Democrats playbook.

Kudos to her for being honest enough with herself to back out now instead of after torturing herself with a few weeks or months of 16+ hour days when the campaigning gets real.

She's rich. Go find a beach and just write checks to candidates you like.

I don't recall the Democrats going after someone who was facing such long odds. The folks who Democrats target are usually serious threats.
