Why Is Karl Rove Wasting Money Attacking Ashley Judd?

After all, she's a liberal actress from a red state who would be up against one of the most powerful Republicans on Capitol Hill. Isn't this just a waste of his billionaire friends' money?

EDIT: All of the red state Democratic senators currently on Capital Hill are Blue Dogs, in good standing with the NRA, not Hollywood liberals like Judd.

Might be good for business, Its a new PAC and need ID, attacking Judd is doing that. He could be taking in a lot more for atttacking Judd than he is spending on attacking Judd.

How big was the buy, how much did he spend?

The premise that attacking an opponent is a sign of weakness or desperation is somewhat strange

It's the same strategy that the Democrats did to Romney before he was nominated. They poisoned the well by attacking him while he was still in a battle for his nomination. It is difficult to fight two political campaigns at the same time.

She is intending to challenge Mitch McConnell. He is a very important person to the GOP.

Rove still does not get it. Running the ad only continues to hurt the GOP. Rove thinks he's getting double bang for his bucks by attacking Hollywood and a potential challenger to McConnell. Judd is a savvy media public figure. She will use that to her advantage. And its obvious the GOP is nervous about losing more Senate seats. To think they have to worry about Kentucky shows how concerned the GOP is.

Amen! If the Republicans have to worry about a Hollywood liberal with no political experience poaching a senate seat in red state like Kentucky, they have major problems. I don't think the party is in that bad a shape, and it shouldn't be fighting down to someone of Judd's weight class.

Republicans may not have to worry about Judd after all. It seems that she's having trouble getting the blessings of the Democratic powerbrokers.

She is also the daughter of Jerry Lundergan, the former state party chairman, which is likely one reason Democratic officials are in no hurry to pick a winner before the primary battle even begins.

The little fact that Judd was willing to spend a year at Harvard a couple of years ago earning a Master's in Public Administration indicates to me that she really wants this, since I doubt she would do something that drastic as research for a movie roll.

Read a story by the WAPO that basically says the Dems are backing away from her. She is a nut case. Personally and politically. She wants to run in Ky and lives in Tenn. She will be going through a divorce.

There are all kinds of issues that are not going to attract Ky voters. This is not the liberal northeast!

why are early attacks on GOP candidates smart when DEMs do it, but when the GOP does it, it's desperate?

Democrats in Kentucky are even running away from Judd. She is too liberal to be elected in Kentucky and the Democrats know McConnell is not all that popular.

ETA: Rove cost a lot of millionaires in 2012. He is still trying to prove he is relevant in American politics.
