Athletes of today. Hands down, no question. Leslie even said it himself, there is no way he could play OL at Michigan anymore, he's just too small. Reply Back to Top
I'm sure 200 lb o-lineman could slow down the Freak. Reply Back to Top
Judge for yourself. Here's the 1971 LSU-Nebraska Orange Bowl, which was essentially the same squad. A couple of players from that team would be stars in any era. The rest would have trouble making it as walkons. The same could be said for Nebraska. They have maybe two or three guys who could play now. That's not to slight those teams, for their era, they were great. But it's a different game now, and you can't compare them. LINK Reply Back to Top
Casanova and Estay were gone in ''72 Reply Back to Top
Why do people even ask these questions? Have you ever went back, watched old highlights, and thought to yourself, "Wow, I could tackle that guy with how slow he's running right now..." Reply Back to Top
Are you talking last year's pre Bama or post Bama LSU team? 2 totally different squads IMO!!! Reply Back to Top

I always wondered at what point NFL teams would lose to a college team. Like would 2001 Miami beat an NFL team from the 70s? Maybe not the Steelers, but what about the Saints? I don't think USC 2004 could stay with a 49ers team from the early 1980s, but what about a crappy NFL team from the early 80s? Reply Back to Top
Either That O-Line was turrible or Nebraska had the greatest pass rush in the history of the world. Reply Back to Top
quote: It was a good OLine. Nebraska had it going back then the way LSU has it going now. Reply Back to Top |
The Al Coffee Touchdown was cool. I used to work with that guy. Reply Back to Top
TC and RE were seniors during the 1971 football season. just saying... Reply Back to Top
Ronnie Estay was a DT and he only weighed about 225, barely big enough to play LB today. Bert Jones and Tommy Casanova could still play in today's game. There are very few modern QB's that could match Jones' ability. PS Casanova's last year was 1971, and I believe the same for Estay Reply Back to Top
QBs rely on smarts and arm strength so old QBs could still play in modern times. Kickers too I guess. Reply Back to Top Refresh
