Baitcaster- cant remember the name. Posted by jimbeam Some guide I was with was using a baitcaster that spooled out from under, not on top. Supposed to never backlash. Anyone know what model I'm talking about?Reply Back to Top
Never heard of that, seems like it would make variable thumbing pretty tough. Reply Back to Top
No I have never heard of it either. I would like to see this, so I will be watching this thread. I am sure the reel has other cons to be able to not backlash tho. Like wont free spool as smooth or something. Reply Back to Top
US Reel makes a baitcaster series that spools from the bottom, and doesn't have a line feed like the traditional open faced baitcasters. It uses something they call 'level wind'. I bought one on close out from cabellas a couple weeks ago, and headed out to Galveston bay in a couple weeks, so I can let ya know how it works compared to my ol' ABU 5000. Reply Back to Top
SuperCaster 1000 Academy is selling them...but I'd rather stick with my Calcutta or my Revo. Reply Back to Top

Very intresting. I would love to try it. Reply Back to Top
sounds pretty cool but i've never heard of us reel so i dont know if id buy one Reply Back to Top
Great reels but the outer finish of the reels doesn't hold up in saltwater worth a shite. It doesn't affect the performance of the reel though. For the money, they are a great buy. Reply Back to Top
I've heard from other guys I fish with and against that USReel makes a very reliable freshwater reel for the money. Haven't used one myself. Reply Back to Top

quote: If you palm the reel to finger the line, it negates the "level wind, causes it to spool up on one side. Now if you are only using it for cranks, spinners, etc it seems like a good reel. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Same boat Im in. I cant break the ones I have. quote: Very true and didnt think of that. I do rest my line across my finger when flippin a jig and such. Reply Back to Top |
I tend to finger the line as well, trying to get a bead on a specs' double tap - hadn't thought about it that way. We shall see. For $35 (from $199) it seems worth throwing out a few times. Reply Back to Top
Wait...they are on sale? Reply Back to Top
Cabellas in allen, tx had a few supercaster 800's in their bargain room as close outs. Had a few extra ugly stiks sitting around unused and thought I'd give it a try. I've thrown it a few times in the yard and it seems legit. Reply Back to Top

Yep, that's the one. Was coming back in to link this from US Reel USReel Got mine from the back room close outs at $34.xx. Didn't see any on the regular displays at all. Reply Back to Top

| True - most of the stuff back there is crap - but I just wanted to get another relatively inexpensive rig to bring down and leave in Galveston. I bring my Abu's back and forth to break down and clean. And since my next trip in 2 weeks ill be going down with a couple buds that aren't well-geared for salt, another setup was what I wanted.
