| LA Confidential Posted by JabarkusRussell on 2/5 at 9:56 pm After seeing Gangster Squad, I was interested in seeing more films set in this era. Great flick. Any other films set in this period you'd recommend? Reply Back to Top |
| Well did you see LA Confidential. Because it's fricking awesome. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by Tigris on 2/5 at 10:14 pm to JabarkusRussell LA Confidential is one of my favorites. From the same era - Chinatown is one of the most critically acclaimed movies ever made. I didn't care for it as much as the critics but it's still required viewing. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by JabarkusRussell on 2/5 at 10:15 pm to Tigris I hate Russell Crowe but Guy Pierce stole the show.Reply Back to Top |

| Loved LA Confidential. Guy Pearce was the man in that movie. Reply Back to Top |
| Turn on TCM at anytime and you should be good. Reply Back to Top |

| The Black Dalhia is a so, so film. But it may be the best out there in terms of giving a solid representation of old time LA. Really goes out of its way to capture the era. Devil in a Blue Dress ain't too bad either. Reply Back to Top |
quote:Seriously, if you want to see the extremes of adaptations of James Elroy novels, watch LA Confidential, then watch the Black Dhalia. Both were great books, Curtis Hanson knocked LA Confidential out of the park, and Brian DePalma should have his Directors Guild card taken away for the shite show that is Black Dhalia. | The Black Dahlia fell apart with the cast. Josh Hartnett was just not a good leading man and Hilary Swank delivered probably the worst performance of her career. Plus…Scarlett Johansson was meh. The only saving grace of the main actors was Aaron Eckhart. Reply Back to Top |

| It's too bad a version of Mulholland Drive couldn't be thrown in the way-back machine. That would be pretty cool IMO. Reply Back to Top |
| I just saw LA Confidential last year on a whim. It is awesome! Reply Back to Top |
| Besides the obvious ones like Chinatown, LA Confidential, etc., I'd also suggest Mulholland Falls. It is another "hat squad" movie in LA from the 50s and has the added bonus of Jennifer Connelly being topless within the first 2 minutes. Reply Back to Top |
| As mentioned, watch Chinatown, then The Two Jakes. Mullholland Falls, and if you have to, The Black Dahlia, though there are a bunch of better noir choices. Reply Back to Top |
