re: Have You Ever Stayed with Someone Coming Out of Anesthesia? My baby was pissed when she came out from having tubes put in her ears. Reply Back to Top
My youngest son was 4 when he had surgery and was put under for about 1 1/2 hrs. We were driving him back home that afternoon and he was still pretty groggy sleeping. All of a sudden he blurts out "Nurse please pass me the..." Me and the wife just looked at each other, pretty freaky Reply Back to Top
That is definitely not an unusual event. Post anesthesia dementia is very common amongst the elderly population. Reply Back to Top

I doubt it. No one wants a pregnant chick in a Junior tank top screaming at people. but I would if there was a later one in the year. This post was edited on 2/4 at 5:42 pm Reply Back to Top |
Thanks infidel for your insightful intellect. I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind. Until TOMORROW!!! Reply Back to Top

Banker I didn't read any responses after the first couple ... guess you know why. Anyway, anesthesia can be terrible for older people as far as coming out of it. Prepare yourself for the possibility that he may not "be right" anymore. I've seen it happen in a physical rehabilitation unit AND in a nursing home where people were admitted after surgery as they couldn't live alone/family couldn't take care of them due to complications from the anesthesia. Hope it clears his system and leaves him as the person you know him as! Reply Back to Top

My dad had double bypass at age 76. Three days later, in the hospital, I am walking him around and he said, "Son, I know what you are doing. You are making a movie. I don't want to be in your movie any more." Of course I explained I am not making a movie. Later at about 3 a.m. he says, "Well, I'm leaving!" A nurse brings a syringe with something to make him sleep. He says he will not allow it. 3 more nurses come in. They, all 4, jump on him and he is slinging them off. So I jumped in and the five of us got the sedative in him. One of several wild episodes in EAMC that week. Reply Back to Top
