A lot gays like to stay in shape

Yes, who would disagree?

quote:

Not all gays are the "sissy type" like you are trying to sterotype

Who said "all"? Who's using the words "sissy type"?

If you can't acknowledge the fact that as a percentage, gays are less active in competative sports than they are in other activities, then a true discussion can't take place.

quote:

We live in a dangerous world. If the scouts are going to allow open gay members it opens the door to the Sandusky types flooding the scouts. Now I'm not saying all gays are Sanduskys but all Sanduskys are gay.

This statement is full of ignorance. The risk posed by child molesters is in no way increased because gays are allowed to participate.

You do know that Sandusky was married and a closet pedo, right?

and he was gay.

Right.

Man, every time I read this condescending crap from an antitheist it just reaffirms the value I place on my Christian beliefs. It does make it difficult to rise above the urge to get all down and ignorant with people like you though.

You really harbor so much animosity toward Christians you would bar a group like the Scouts from simply using the facilities to provide a SAFE environment for children? Very childish.

Separation of church and state is typical liberal bull shit, peddled by snake oil salesmen pandering to a niche. I find it incredible people like you attempt to paint Christians in the light your kind exudes every time you put pen to paper. Not to say real atheists are anything like you, I actually get along well with most atheists. It's dolts I have a problem with.

/rant

OT: Many posters have already said it, unofficial don't ask don't tell goes out the window to kowtow to an over bearing arm of the liberal progressives. And so begins the end of the Scouts.

FWIW I wouldn't send my nephews into the woods with any person I don't know well gay or otherwise. I would never want my nephew sleeping in the same tent with a sexually curious 9-13 year old.

Oh no. Gays just start these child outreach non-profit organizations for the hell of it. (I never use this)

The Catholic Church has dozens of empty buildings in the US (former churches) that evidence the direct opposite of that statement.

At some point, you mix a gay leader with young, defenseless boys and you have a recipe for disaster. This is undeniable and has been shown over and over and over again.

Fairy tales and ghost stories have no place in a place of education.
If you want christian ethics for your kid, send 'em to Sunday school.
If the boy scouts are promoting as much jebus and gawd as they are promoting how to tie a knot and start a fire with sticks, then they don't belong.
scouts.

So assuming the bible or specific Christian values consist of fairy tales and ghost stories then I would assume that you are against the examination of Greek and Roman mythology? What about the works of historical philosophers?

It seems to me that watering down basic principles of right and wrong are causing damage to our society as a whole. This is why the PC language has become more important than common sense. This is also one of the many reasons why so many feel entitled to "stuff" rather than to work for it. Beneath the shadow of secularism is the myth that secularism promotes the concept of fairness when quite the opposite is true.

I don't think it's a smart choice, considering what being a boy scout means and what the organization's purpose is.

What is the purpose, in your opinion? What does "being a boy scout mean" to you, and how is that any different for boys who are gay?

quote:

Also, it is a sign that urban values (or lack thereof) are creeping into our conservative rural and suburban areas.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here. "Urban values?"

quote:

I will be very unhappy to see this country reflect urban morals
Urban morals? Do you simply mean accepting that gays exist and that they may want to participate in scouts?

What proof do you have that gays are less active than straights? Quit with these baseless statements so a honest discussion can take place.

Right

But my point is Sandusky wasn't living as an openly gay man. What's stopping a closet pedo from being involved with the scouts now?

It's not only deniable, in fact, I dispute it!

The Catholic Church sex scandal did have an impact on attendance and support, but it's not the only reason, and probably not thge biggest. First of all, the decline in attendance is not as great as you assume, but that's another story. Secondly, the incidence of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church was not greater than the general population or that of other churches. That's a fact.

I think it's disgusting. I was in scouting as a kid and I got a lot out of the experience. I would not have participated in it if an openly gay Scout or leader was in my troop. I see no reason that every person't sexuality (Other than heterosexual) has to be thrown in my face and that they get preferential treatment.

This country sucks.

That's why the "well I worry about my son being molested" argument is moot, because pedos can already be involved, they need to just not be openly gay.

Who's talking about "throwing sexuality in your face?"

Who's talking about preferential treatment?

The Catholic Church had to shut down many buildings because it could no longer support the churches due to pay outs from law suits for sexual abuse and not stopping or preventing.

Just because you are denying it doesn't make it untrue.

How is allowing gay people to join throwing it in your face and giving them preferential treatment?
