hmm. seems very insightful.

IDGAF about what her last name is, and neither did she. she didn't refuse to change her last name. it just never came up. but if i pressed the issue in the least [that is, if i gave a damn] she'd change it in a heartbeat. but who gives a shit? half the guys in the thread who claim to have a problem with it can't explain why.

Biologically speaking, I think it is important for men to carry their fathers family name because of the passing of the Y chromosome.

that seems the silliest reason. Why not use the mother's for mitochondrial DNA reasons?

My wife hasn't because she had to wait due to passports (so she could fly for the honeymoon.)

After we close on our house, she's changing it.

if I get married I don't want my wife to steal my name and try to embarrass my family name after we get divorced. I wouldn't let my kids have my last name until they're successes.

You can't post about equality on here. The Southern white males don't like that kind of thing.

Pumpkins just nailed it. Your lady should want to take your name. If she doesn't want to take your name, that is a HUGE red flag. If that has to be explained, you have some more life experiences to go through. Be a sucker if you want to.

And LOL at the dudes in this thread that want to sound all enlightened and shite.

I find this hard to believe. It never came up once, during the entire wedding planning process?? When you were both filling out paperwork for your marriage license?

Would you take her name if she asked you to? If not, then I guess that's a HUGE red flag.

It never did, I was 44 she was 40 an established professional no children ,it never came up. I never asked .she never asked if it bothered me which it doesn't . I guess age and self confidence may have something to do with it.

Doesn't matter to me if she keeps her name, as long as it's not the name of her previous husband.

No sir I am a male. The female takes the male's name.

You are so open minded and enlightened!!! Congrats!

Why would a chick ask a guy to do this?

Not that important. My fiancee is going to keep her name in professional circles (she is a surgeon) and use my name for everything else. Its a pain in the arse for her to change her license and she has earned the right to be Dr. _______ for as long as she wants.
