How important is it to you for your wife to take your last name?

And ladies, how big of a deal is it in your opinion whether to change yours or not? I recently met a married couple through mutual friends. Great couple, get along great, seem to have a very good thing going. However, she is an only child and her dad didn't have any brothers, so she didn't want her family name to basically end if she changed it. Her husband didn't seem to care really.

I feel like if I was in this situation (with all of the above circumstances coming into play), even though I'd understand where future wife is coming from, that'd be a hard thing for her to not take my name. Outside of famous celebrities or very established professionals in their field with a large clientele, I can't really see myself being cool with her not changing it.

i would NEVER marry a woman who wouldn't take my last name.

What the hell is next, they don't wanna obey?

I mean seriously

Very.

1) You'd look like a bitch if she didn't

2) There'd be some awkward situations explaining to people that your wife is a self rightous cunt that won't suck it up and take her husbands name.

Seems pretty stupid to me. Her last name will end with her anyway (unless the kids take her last name which would be insane). Just prolonging the inevitable

I like to pretend that it wouldn't bother me and it was certainly her choice.

that said, I'm glad she took my name

Your friend made a huge mistake. Her refusal to take his name means that she doesn't respect him enough. A newly wed woman should want to take her husband's name. Feminism is destroying marriage in this society.

I would probably be Mrs. Whatever in my personal life, but I will always be Dr. NoHo.

My wife and I talked about this a few weeks ago. She had a friend that kept her name.

She asked me what would have happened if she wanted to keep her name. I simply said "neither of us would currently e married". That's a huge deal to me. But honestly I couldn't tell you why it is.

My wife floated the idea a few months before we got married. I told her in no uncertain terms that if she was marrying me she was taking my name. If she does not want my name, she does not want to marry me.

We got married and she took my name.

You mean like instead of someone else's last name? hmmmm...I would have to say I would be disappoint if I married someone and they chose the last name of someone else, one of my friends perhaps.

Invalid question. There are certain personality types associated with women who have these sorts of opinions, and they are not marriage material.

I didn't ask, but I would assume it'd be the guy's. Which like someone in the thread said, it's gonna die anyway. Maybe it's just a female thing where they don't want the onus on them that they actually went to court and changed it(killed it off) themselves? Who knows.

Related to the question in the OP, as a man which would you rather have if your wife did indeed want to keep her name... your name-her name or just her name? Hyphenations usually piss me off and are uppity as frick.
