| Who was coaching third?!?!?! Reply Back to Top |
| starting lineup tonight was sciambra laird bregman rhymes katz jones ibarra ross Nola threw 4 scoreless. gave up a hit each inning. 2 doubles, 2 singles. he was pretty sharp. cotton got roughed up in the 1st and then cruised. 2nd team defense didnt help him in the first inning which was part of the problem. bonvillain pitched 1 inning and gave up a run. bregman had an rbi triple off bonvillain and an rbi single off of cotton. barash and stevenson doubled. | Vlad Guerrero style. Cant wait to see this kid play. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Despite all the buzz about Barash, I did not expect him to be able to contribute this year at the plate, yet he is impressive so far. WAY to early to pass judgment because this is only practice, but he may be a special player. Reply Back to Top |
| agreed. one thing is for sure, he's no third baseman. looked pretty awkward there tonight. Reply Back to Top |
| Speaking of, ibarra has an extremely quick release. He and Jones had a very pretty around the horn dp. Reply Back to Top |
quote: No doubt. Coach had him at SS on the second team one scrimmage last week. Not sure why he does stuff like this. He is not ready to catch in the SEC either based on what I have seen, which is why Moore is really the backup catcher, regardless of what the "official" depth chart may say. But he looks really comfortable at the plate on offense, which surprises me considering how young he is. As we all know though, things really shake out when conference play begins and batters face SEC pitching. Reply Back to Top |

RELIEF PITCHING Nick Rumbelow Jr.* Chris Cotton Sr.* Joey Bourgeois Sr.* Will LaMarche Jr.* Kurt McCune Jr. Kevin Berry Sr. Cody Glenn So. Russell Reynolds Fr. Hunter Newman Fr. Once again LSU loses arguably it's top closer, but gets stronger in the pen. Nick Goody leaves for the MLB, insert Nick Rumbelow and everything's peachy...not quite. After suffering a strain in his throwing arm Nick's going to be out at least at least two weeks into the season. Good news is the arm's not as bad as it could have been, however still a scare to the back end of the pen. Speaking of the bullpen the tigers return Nick Rumbelow, Joey Bourgeois, Kevin Berry, Chris Cotton, Cody Glenn, Kurt McCune will adding flame throwing Will LaMarche. Will LaMarche the right hander from California can throw heat, topping out at 95mph this spring, his downfall is location and control something he's going to need to find quickly as he fills in for Rumbelow in the early weeks of the season. Guys like Joey Bourgeois, Kurt McCune, and even Cody Glenn may be the workhorses out of the pen meaning they're going to come in whenever necessary and eat up innings. Kevin Berry one of the few seniors is again going to be a specialist coming in for an inning or two at a time. Chris Cotton one of the few left handers out of the pen has turned into quite a story in his past three years. Before the start of the 2010 year Cotton earned one of the final walk-on spots and has never disappointed thus far. Chris actually has a below average fastball but his superb control and a nasty curve is what gets him to induce ridiculous swings from hitters. Talks have been to move Cotton to the Sunday starting spot, however Cotton is much more valuable as a bridge to the closer. If and when Rumbelow regains fluid action in his arm I fully expect him to regain the closer position. LSU's last class brought in 5 fresh faces in (Butler, Sewald, Reynolds, Devall, and Newman) The cream of the crop in terms of potential from the five I have should be Hunter Newman. With his 6'3 frame and excellent changeup his strength down the road will get him into a starter position. Sewald and Reynolds should be the guys who get quality time as freshman, both can get it into the low 90's. Butler and Devall may be situational guys out of the pen this year, similar to Berry. Devall may turn into a Chris Cotton clone before he leaves. I simply cannot go into detail of every pitcher, if anyone wants more info on a particular arm please let me know. All in all this bullpen is locked down by a strong veteran presence and should be the key in a run to Omaha.
