He just doesn't have the talent yet.

But the Terds don't get it...and probably never will.

My point is that there is nothing about jones' resume that suggests he can compete with the best teams in the confetence not named kentucky.

You have to look at what North Texas was before he got there and what he turned them into. He averaged like 20 wins a year his last 6 years there. His recruiting so far speaks for itself.

Did Nick Saban's resume look that good before he was hired at LSU? NO. Because he was at a shitty school. Use your brain dude.

i've already explained how focusing on comparing jones to haith is missing the big picture. It's oversimplification which is typical around here. Lsu's last 3 hires have been disappointing.

You think jones' resume is better than average? Well that explains why you're defending him.

I don't know who was interested. I'm not a mind reader. What i know is comparing resumes and tourney wins. Jones is moribund on both accounts. That's not an opinion. Now, lsu is playing exactly the way his resume would suggest and some people are making excuses as if this is somehow surprising

still didn't win the conference which is weak, didn't make even 1 impressive tourney run much less have a signature tourney win. Think about what you're saying. Athletic powerhouse lsu is now satisfied with a coach who got unt out of the cellar. This is how low the standard has fallen and you're defending it

saban had impressive wins and had an impressive resume in a major conferenence. It's not like lsu hired a coach who averaged 9 wins for a few seasons at marshall or san jose st.

I think two tournament appearances, two conference championships and five 20 win seasons is ok. Though you could link me to where I said that.

Yet you are certain that LSU could've done better.

Yet you labeled a coach that had a grand total of one career tourney win as a model coach.

Where were you three games ago? And please tell me coach, how would you get this team that is currently starting a walk-on at center, to win?

Fairly obvious to me that you are just spouting shite off. Again...tell me more about those zero conference wins of Johnny Jones.

Dude really? So you expect that the coach at NORTH TEXAS should have a deep tournament run to his resume? He did very well at his school compared to the shite that his school used to do. He GREATLY improved their program. That is what you look at.

The best coach in the world can only do so much with little talent. Talent wasnt going to North Texas. Especially before he got there.

Really now? This is Saban's resume at Michigan State.

1995 Michigan State 6–5–1 4–3–1 5th L Independence
1996 Michigan State 6–6 5–3 5th L Sun
1997 Michigan State 7–5 4–4 6th L Aloha
1998 Michigan State 6–6 4–4 6th
1999 Michigan State 9–2* 6–2 2nd

That is HORRIBLE minus one year. He beat Ohio State twice and Michigan once. He also never even won a bowl game there.

So your argument sucks. GFY.

How anyone can even bitch about CJJ with what he has to work with is a joke. The problem LSU still has on the national circuit is the way they handled Brady, which on the national scene is a black eye firing him when and how we did. I do know one thing we got an LSU guy who will give everything he's got to be successful here and I have no doubt he will. He is playing with second tier recruits left by the bum at TCU

No matter how good your sets are players not only have to make plays but they have to make good decisions. Most college teams run the similar sets. Mostly high pick and roll or spread dribble drive. Certain teams run more disciplined sets for example Utah State and Butler but for the most part it's let great players make plays.

i think you know that jones has zero conference championships. Winning the regular season is more difficult and more respectable than winning the conference tourney. Plenty of less than great teams get hot for a weekend and string together a few wins even though they aren't great. To make it through the grind of the regular season or the ncaa tourney is a whale of a job. Jones has done neither.

And yes lsu could have done better. There are plenty of better resumes out there. I'm talking about since brady was hired. To miss on one happens to a lot of prgrams but 3 mediocre hires in a row cleary says the ad is ok with mediocrity.

I'll say it again, we could debate who is in the top tier of the conference but the point is there's nothing in jones' resume that suggests he can compete with the best. He couldn't even win the sun belt.

As far as the way the team is playing now, i'm just pointing out that this shouldn't be surprising. It matches his prior performances. If he somehow rises above what he's done in the past, then lsu lucked out.

coaches at equal to lesser schools do. What's the problem.

quote:

no, you look at his resume vs others. He's not coaching in a bubble. Improving unt while never winning the conference is not nearly as impressive as doing well at a better school/conference.

quote:

Talent wasnt going to North Texas.
i don't know why i have to keep reminding people that the competition in the sun belt is pretty low. It shouldn't take sec level talent to win that conference. He got sun belt level talent and couldn't win the conference nor was there one time when he turned heads in the tourney. That's just not impressive.

quote:

This is Saban's resume at Michigan State.
good grief. You list several impressive wins yet fail to point out that jones hasn't done squat in the basketball equivalent- the tourney. Then you list saban's records, failing to note that getting crappy mich st to that point in a pretty strong big10 with powerhouse mich right down the road is 10 times more impressive than jones' meager accomplishments in the freaking sun belt. And everybody who knew anything about fb knew that saban was legit while there don't seem to be ANY major programs chasing jones except for lsu.

tell me what part of what i said is not factual. It is a fact that there have been plenty of coaches over the last 15 years who had better resumes than who lsu hired. Lsu is aiming low and you geniuses are defending it. Good job
