Les Miles may have a fear to overcome.

I was listening to a talk show about LSU on the radio and the point about LSU offense was brought up. LSU has had some pretty high powered offenses who had an elaborate passing attack under Les. (See '05, '06, 07) So the arguement that Les doesn't know offense or is an offense killer doesn't really hold water because he has proven that the Tigers can be electric with him in charge. The point was brought up that when Perriloux was kicked off and Lee was thrust into the role of starter, and the disasterous '08 season happened, Les in a way became scared. Excuse the ridiculous comparison but similar to the waterboy when the coach sort of went into a shell, it seems as all those pick sixes has left the river boat gambler a little gun shy. It makes sense considering that LSU could really throw the ball before the Lee disaster yet now Les is afraid to open it up for fear of the offense screwing things up. This is probably why he enjoys having Stud run the offense because Stud isn't going to contend with Les to open things up. Les says run the ball, Stud says yes. Unfortunately he will have to get over that at some point because this conservative run down your throat offense doesn't always work.

I could see what youre talking about...

also, it's not that we are opposed to running the ball just mix it up some more(different play variety.)

Les passed A LOT more this season(what everyone begged for last season) and was successful at times. I see Mett improoving greatly with more experience and lower expectations

Gotta love those who make a living out of second guessing...perhaps what is called is based on what they feel the talent on the O-Line could help produce. Injuries or players in new positions make for more conservative approach during the season.

The bowl game I think was an opportunity to experiment--there was really nothing to gain or lose for us. Our recruiting class is set regardless of the outcome. Clemson needed that win WAY MORE than we did in order to gain some legitimacy for their program. But back to the game---as I was saying O-Line talent dictates offensive strategy. The evidence showed it is hard to have a passing attack when your QB is being tackled before he even completes his drop-back.

Your logical comments are sound.

This actually may hold some water. Many on here have such short memories and wouldn't acknowledge your theory, but it does intrigue me.

I would even argue that the JJ9 love wasn't really love at all. I think Les was less in love with Jefferson and it was more that he was terrified of Lee. The first game in Alabama probably brought up those memories of '08 and he never developed trust and confidence in Lee.

I've been saying this for a few years. After the turnover machine that was the LSU offense in 2008 happened, Les realized it was safer, if less exciting, to simply win most games with a smothering defense and pound it on the ground. It's worked REALLY well most of the time...untill it doesn't.

While I'd like a change at OC, I'd much prefer for Miles to get some counseling to get over 2008 and move past that so we can get back to the more productive offenses he put up at Ok St, and his first few years at LSU.

This! JJ was safer as far as Miles was concerned. Now...Lee's failrues in 2008 were largely the result of Les and Crowton asking the kid to do things he wasn;t capabale of or ready for and almost ALWAYS asking him to do it in terrible parts of the field...but it clearly skewed the way Miles saw him. That was unfortunate for Lee, but it's clearly what was going on...assuming you're not some conspiracy nut.

The offense was fine under Lee in 2011.

we know that les can run an offense. why he doesn't is a cause for speculation. while this theory makes some sense, there is no getting around his love for JJ. this was the weirdest infatuation i've ever seen.

you'll never convince me that les didn't love him some JJ.

next year is les' critical year. even some posi-tigers are losing a little love for les. I mean, come on, you can't excuse 5 years of no offense.

Get back on the horse, Les.

How could Lee have scared him worse than JJ did in the Championship game.

GREAT POST

And not to mention Lee was still given multiple chances at Bama in 2011.

Yeah I mean I'm no Rhodes scholar but I don't buy that Les is a complete moron. Fear makes us do strange things. And honestly I could see Les having flashbacks of 08 on the sideline during GOTC pt 1. The man knows football but he needs somebody to kinda get him back his manhood. You see flashes of it sometimes, for example the tight end reverse vs the Gumps or hitting Randle on a crossing route over the middle in that same game. He just doesn't do It all the time.
