Which 90s Center Does Dwight Howard Most Compare To?

I'd say David Robinson. Both were incredibly cut big men with good feet although Robinson was a much better scorer. To show how bad centers have become, he would only be the 5th best center if he played in the 90s behind Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson.

Shaq.

Robinson was good mid range shooter

Shaq sucked at defense and averaged close to 30. Dwight was DPOY 4 times and barely averages 20. The only things they have in common is their poor free throw shooting and the teams they played on.

Alonzo Mourning maybe?

He seems to fit better than Robinson to me

That is who I was going to mention.

I forgot about Zo. That's a good comparison. Who would win head to head between the 2?

Zo was more skilled, he would win.

Zo had a decent jumper and more refined post game than Howard. He wasn't as good of a rebounder.

Maybe Dikembe is the best comparison minus the USG rate (and athleticism) disparity between the two.

Might be the second best comparison, but the difference in athleticism is marked.

Probably Patrick Ewing. Ewing really looked like a turnover-prone oaf at times and had a pretty limited offensive game compared to the other top centers from his era. The Knicks actually made a big mistake not bringing in another top scorer to lead their offense instead of building their offense around Patrick Ewing. Ewing would have been much better served just being a secondary scorer while anchoring the defense instead of having to carry the load on both ends of the floor.

It's a better comparison than Zo. The main thing Zo and Howard have in common is that they weren't truly elite (historically speaking).

Ewing had a nice jumper too. Was money on the baseline and from about the foul line.

Howard cant shoot at all. He scores all his buckets near the rim on sheer athleticism/power, which is why i said Shaq.

Early Hakeem (Akeem) is another good comparison. He was all athleticism, defense, and rebounding until about 1992. He was also pissed about his shitty teammates and the organization and wanted to be traded (almost traded to the Clippers).

So adding Deke and Zo would make Dwight the 7th best center.

I'm not sure I'd put Dikembe and Zo above Howard. It depends on how you line them up.
