My biggest fear will be if this new laws bans the future sale of semi-automatic weapons and forces gun owners to register all the semi-automatic weapons that they already own. If that happens, you won't be able to safely sell them or hand them down to other family members unless you register them. A lot of folks will instinctively not register them, but there is a downside to this.

That's only partially true... If NFA items are registered individually they go back to the Feds after death. the only way to pass them down is to register under a trust. This is also the only way to allow someone other than yourself to use said gun.
