| Baton Rouge's local music scene Posted by King of New Orleans Why does it suck so bad? Has it always been this bad? The only time I remember it being decent was when you'd go hear Addavoy/Another Big Machine and/or Meriwether when they were actually Meriwether, not some new band Drew put together while keeping the name. Don't say it's good and try to validate it by spitting out cover bands/80's cover bands. This post was edited on 12/31 at 7:05 am Reply Back to Top |
| Ya ever heard of Gris Gris or Captain Green?? local funk bands Reply Back to Top |
| The Caterie kept original music on life support in BR. It burned down and the void hasn't really been filled. Unfortunatley, most prople in BR would prefer to sing along with a Creed cover than listen to a song they've never heard before. Reply Back to Top |
| I don't really know what your talking about. Chelsea's and North Gate always has GrisGris, Captain Green, and Onion Loaf. They play together like onece a week. Earphunk plays the varsity all the time if you count New Orleans bands This post was edited on 12/31 at 8:48 am Reply Back to Top |
| Are you referring to local bands sucking ? or the town supporting music period? Between the Varsity changing of the guard, the moon's steady lineup, Chelsea's doing their thing and our new room downtown (Mud + Water) I think the scene is healthy for a town that size. We are trying to do our part with plenty of shows coming in Jan/Feb (Tall Firs, Fishbone, Debauche, Tess Brunet, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Blue Mountain to name a few) Reply Back to Top |

quote: Bro, this is a capitalist society (so far). Bands will play what their audience wants to hear. It's how you keep them coming back and buying more beer. Reply Back to Top |

quote: thanks ... it's a completely different space now. Fishbone will a party for sure the night before Spanish Town MG. The documentary is both sad and fascinating, but i am glad the original lineup will grace our stage. Reply Back to Top |
