| re: I know some one will say Here's a couple that haven't been mentioned -"Bat 21" (movie is bull shite according to someone who was there, but still entertaining) -"All Quiet on the Western Front." 1979 version. Should be a classic, but nobody seems to know about it. Reply Back to Top |

quote: That's a little presumptuous of you... Does it bother anyone that Black Hawk Down's cast was primarily foreign actors and B or C actors? I really like Thin Red Line. You guys should check it out if you haven't seen it. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Great movie... IMHO, you're spot on with that assessment It's always interesting to see what Vets have to say about these movies. Reply Back to Top |
| A few more to add to my list: Taking Chance (HBO movie) U571 Crimson Tide Not as good as my original list, but worth watching. Taking Chance was a surprisingly good one. Reply Back to Top |

| hurt locker gets a bad rap from OIF/OEF vets for being "unrealistic" but Vietnam vets would probably say the same about movies like Platoon and Apoc. Now. IMO other than the uniform blunders and the far fetched Hollywood thrown into the movie it was pretty spot on. The scene in the commissary where he's looking at the plethora of cereal and is so overwhelmed, hit home for me, and I thought captured exactly what a lot of guys deal with when they return and why they just want to go back. Its a movie, not a documentary, so its purpose is to entertain the audience. Nobody wants to watch a convoy or foot patrol in Iraq find and IED then wait 4+ hours for EOD to be flown in from the nearest FOB. I'm not sure Hurt Locker is top 5 as far as war movies go or anything but its definitely not the worst. Reply Back to Top |
| Are you in military? Only people I know that hate Hurt Locker are military. I loved it. Well done movie, just not too accurate Reply Back to Top |

| The Thin Red Line has to be one of the top 5 worst movies to me. U571 was a great movie. I thought BoB was better than the Pacific, but liked the Pacific for what it was. My pawpaw was on Okinawa when Japan surrendered, he says he can't watch BoB or Pacific because of that. FMJ is great until they get out of Basic, then it loses me. Apocalypse Now is ok, has some great scenes, but then just wanders around for a while. I also was not a fan of The Hurt Locker Tigerland was actually a really good one, and based on a true story. Blackhawk down is a great one also. We Were Soldiers they did a really good job on, and could have done more. The movie was only the first half of the book. The Lost Battalion is a great WWI movie. | Traditional: Saving Private Ryan Non-Traditional: Tears of the Sun Hurt Locker: liked it as a movie, but was too bull shite. Jarhead: meh. Loved and hated. Reply Back to Top |
| Anyone see Empire of the Sun? I recommend it. LINK Reply Back to Top |
quote: Blackhawk Down is up there - I'm a softie for the classics: The Longest Day The Sands of Iwo Jima A Bridge Too Far Patton Platoon Full Metal Jacket Apocalypse Now And one not a lot of people remember, but it was the template for Full Metal Jacket - The Boys from Company C There are great made for television stuff, too: The Pacific Band of Brothers Gettysburg As far as newer (at least to me) - Eastwood's films Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima form an excellent double feature. quote: I thought the acting was solid, overall, obviously the US market isn't unaware of Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana or Orlando Bloom - and McGregor and Bana gave standout performances, in my opinion. The movie was supposed to jumpstart Hartnett's action career - out of the top billed, I think his performance was just okay. Reply Back to Top |
| I feel the need to throw southern comfort in the mix even though there are better movies, it's still a cool flick. Reply Back to Top |
quote: No question, one of the best war movies that no one has heard about. Great flick. Patton - The Longest Day - Blackhawk Down - Sgt. Alvin York - The Bridge on the River Kwai Man, I could go on for a while. There have been some great war movies. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
