Continuing my sorting... How do yall store your coins?

I bought the White Cardboard holders to slide into the 20 coin pages, but is there a better way?

Also, I've got multiple of certain coins and I dont know which one to keep special or not...

Would you rather something that looks like your 1880 pictures or your 1887?

I use plastic coin holders that I buy from Baton Rouge Gold & Silver Market to put by Morgans in. It helps protect the coin better than the Cardboard holders.

As far as type of coin I prefer, I like toned coins, but they come with a premium while at the same time, I like Morgans with its natural luster (non-cleaned). But in the end, its really just what catches my eye and what I think is a good buy/investment. Its always good to grab higher quality Morgans if you can get them because they'll increase in their value as time goes on. It really is what you like.

Cost of each one of those?

May be too expensive for me to do that

Can you show a pic of what you are talking about?

That wouldn't be too bad. I thought you were talking about the ones that were a few bucks a pop.

Sweet... Then how do you store all of them?

Is there a holder or something?

Ok so I need y'all's opinion on this Morgan. Me and the accountant (also a fellow coin collector that collects morgans) at work are debating as to whether or not the gash on the left wing (right side of coin) is a VAM. The accountant seems to think it is and is due to a cracked die where as I think it's just a gash from poor handling. Keep in mind, all of the coins I received/posted were from an inheritance who was a coin collector and the individual who received the coins then sold them to my buddy so I'm puzzled as to whether or not it is or is not a VAM. Plus, after briefly looking through the current VAM catalog, I can't find anything that matches or remotely resembles the mark in question which tells me its most likely a gash or I've found a new VAM.

Close up

I have a box that allows me to put two rows side by side with 15 per row. It's an old watch box that my dads Cyma watch that I inherited from him came in. It can't hold all of them so I take rubber bands and them wrap them around a stack of five coins to hold them together. Nothing fancy.

It looks to me like it was mishandled. There are gashes on the rim of the coin between the "T" and "E" in states and between the "O" and "F" in of that are similar to the gash in the eagles left wing.

That's exactly one of the points I brought up which makes me think it is a gash due to improper mishandling. Hell it almost looks like someone put it under a table leg to balance the table. I don't think it's a VAM at all.

Just a friendly reminder to those in the BR area, the coin show starts Today (9a-5p) and ends Tomorrow (9a-3p). It's being held at the Holiday Inn on airline by the interstate. Not sure if its free to the public or pay to play.

Theres supposed to be 40+ booths/tables of dealers buying and selling gold/silver and coins. ANACS is supposed to be there grading coins as well. I'm not sure if theyre spot grading or grading and slabbing or what they're charging to grade. I'd still prefer to have my coins sent to PCGS or NGC though.

I'm going to go today after I leave the office to check it out and tomorrow I'm going with the accountant from work to actually get stuff.

Yeah I drove by and saw they were having a car show and thought that it probably was cancelled. I looked on the internet and saw that was indeed cancelled... That blows. Anyone know why it was cancelled?

That shite cots way too much $$$

There are a number of my coins I want to get graded, but it just doesn't make sense..

1921 Silver on Ebay on average goes for around $32-40 where is a certified (Of course, depending on grade) goes for usually between $45-75....

shite cots around $30 a coin to get graded, you pretty much break even, if you are lucky.

Matt's corrects, ANACS is a reputable grader but, PCGS & NGC are the ones that people trust the most when it comes time to buy/sell.

ETA: In the end, a coins grade/quality is like a painting. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (literally). One service will say MS-65, another will say MS-63 and another will say MS-64. It's like the old quote George Bernard Shaw said "If all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion."

I wish there was a more affordable option... Like if they had a few different local offices throughout the country where you could go in and get them done for a reasonable price and not have to pay shipping...

I know its not feasible for them, but would be pretty neat.

Pick a few high end dealers in large cities (NY, Chicago, DC, Miami, Houston, LA, SF, etc...) and have them certified to rate on a walk-in basis and charge a flat fee... Maybe $10-20 a coin where the rater keeps a portion and the organization get the rest
