Yes....and you're that guy who always hates on me for saying it yet started a thread of your own asking for advice on good Beatles music, aren't you??????

No, I issued a challenge to Beatles fans to put together a playlist that would make me a fan. Persuade me, I said. And I'd be happy as a clam if I came out of it a Beatles fan.

Unfortunately the project never came to fruition. One guy offered to send me his collection, but then I didn't hear from him again. This board is great, but it needs PM'ing.

Ali early in his career when he was known as Cassius Clay was amazing. I'd put Ali at the top of the list as the greatest heavyweights I've seen.

I've seen a lot of Marciano's & Lewis' fights on film and I would rate them #2 & #3.

Just call him pre-ban Ali.

My opinion is George Foreman is the GOAT. The reasons for picking one or the other can be argued for months.

I go off one thing when I get in these debates, WHO would I bet on to win prime VS prime and what the outcome would be.

In that sense Foreman is my pick. The guy was a machine when healthy and in his prime and imo would destroy 95% of all heavyweights that stepped in the ring with him in their prime.

Now he had off nights here and there but many stories have come from a lot of them.

He is also a class act and a super nice guy in real life.

The problem is that his prime lasted all of 3 fights.

I agree here. When I think of great boxers, I think of those great rivalry fights that define a guy's career. For Tyson, those are Holyfield, which were unfortunately for him, were after prison. And those well, didn't turn out well. I mean short of shooting fireworks out of his ass, Tyson was the most exciting heavyweight, and there wasn't much you can say he could have done to improve that, short of fireworks. But top 3? Comeon man, maybe top 3 in boxing games, all time

The idea Tyson is in the top 3 is silly and wouldn't be entertained by anyone who seriously follows boxing.

Define the parameters.

If it's a resume comparison, Tyson isn't even in the discussion.

If it's a "who woulda whupped who in their prime" discussion, Tyson in the top 3 is entertained by many many people who seriously follow boxing.

And, let's be honest, resume comparisons in boxing are completely worthless. It's silly to do anything other than compare guys as they were at their very best.

Tyson could've been the GOAT. he was 19 and knocking out grown men. Think what that does to a 19 yr old's mind. Heavyweight champ OF THE WORLD at 19.

You forgot to mention the fact that he also happens to be genuinely crazy.

Have you seen "When We Were Kings"?

If not, you definitely should check it out. Awesome documentary.

Terrell Davis = Mike Tyson
They had a brief reign. It was really impressive, but neither in the Top 5.

More like Bo Jackson.

Where the frick did you get the Terrell Davis example from? Tyson was the most feared man on the planet, and you're gonna pull out Terrell Davis?

.

And the above proves that you are still -- unbelievably -- missing what is a very easy point to grasp.

We're comparing fighters at their very best, dip shite. As such, fleeting greatness matters a hell of a lot more than mere sustained goodness.

Forgive my tone if you are in fact mentally handicapped.

At what point were you planning on admitting dumbassery for making the below statement?

quote:

Now you are telling me that you have never heard of Max Baer? That explains a lot.

Hahaha. He thought Buddy Baer and Max Baer were the same guy. Moron.

Frazier would have laughed at Tyson.

In all fairness that really is an absolutely awful comparison. Bo Jackson would be a little closer.

Before or after he got knocked out?

I'd like to just reiterate the general point that if somebody actually believes that Joe Frazier would have beaten Mike Tyson, they are either (a) clueless about boxing and/or (b) retarded.

Tyson is an upgraded version of Frazier. There is no stylistic argument to be made. Tyson gives Smokin' Joe a beating.

Frazier could have beat Tyson. Joe is underrated. No one has a problem putting Ali at the top but they forget how close Joe was to taking 2 out of three from Ali.

Ali/Frazier III is the greatest fight I've ever seen.
