Which is what I'm more concerned about.

With aTm now in the SEC they have a better chance of getting north LA talent. Most north LA guys(not me) are Texas bound in their careers. Parents who were cowboy fans and generally prefer Texas to Louisiana. When I was in school it was Houston this, Dallas that, etc...

Being in the SEC and with the talent in Texas, aTm could potentially be the next elite. The lack of Elitism(from aTm) and having home state pride, but with no other major colleges in that state, plays a huge role in getting LSU north LA talent.

Just recently from here we have:

Rasco
Claiborne
Mingo
Randle

All guys who have or will be in the first or second rounds of the NFL draft.

until they get someone in La that lsu offers, desires, and presses, this isn't a concern. people are tripping. 1, I repeat, 1 good season and still without a conference title since the 90s. Lets see how they respond to playing with pressure and expectations next year.

I think if anything the ATM ascendency hastens the need for Mack Brown's departure @ Texas. ATM may have the last laugh on Texas. Big 12 is not the place to be and that becomes more and more apparent with each passing day.

I don't think it affects it one way or the other frankly.

It looks like LSU won't get any commits from Texas this year, but we are supposedly in good shape with several big Texas recruits in 2014. There are plenty of good recruits in Texas to go around.

FWIW Lacouture is from Texas but moved to NE after he committed there.

Its not like we make or break our team by getting players from texas....not a big percentage at all. Not to mention, we seem to have evolved into getting our horses (dl and ol) from the east coast lately. The only thing texas is good for is db's and wide receivers

LSU will benefit from A&M in the SEC, east Texas will become SEC country. The players (that didn't want to stay in Texas) that used to go to Oklahoma and Nebraska will now be going to LSU, Arkansas and Alabama.

A&M will get a leg up on UT with instate recruiting and the SEC (primarily LSU) will cut into BigXII recruiting. With respect to recruiting, this will be mutually beneficial. LSU will lose to recruiting battles the A&M that never would have happened before the move, but as a whole it will be better for LSU.

What North Louisian are you referring to? Surely not the one I have known. You can't be a North Louisiana (Port City) native and believe what you jst said. Maybe you confuse some Texans who frequent the area (Shreveport is the major city for the Ark-La-TEX), as being North Louisianians.

The North Louisiana I know loves LSU as much as those anywhere. However, if you live in a tri-state region and in the largest city, natives of other states visit often and many move there to live. So yes, there are Texas fans and Arkansas fans, but normally they are natives of those states. I assure you, it is rare to find a North Louisiana native who does not love LSU with a passion. If you are out on game days, it would be evident with all of the LSU gear. Rare, if ever, see Texas gear on their game days. LSU is the Louisian state school, not South Louisiana's only.

As relates to the Cowboys, the overwhelming majority of North Louisiana Cowboy fans are older and started liking the Cowboys before the Saints came into existence, when the Cowboys was the closest NFL team they could identify, being that Dalls is closer even than New Oeleans. Sort of like the Gulf Coast Mississippi being staunch Saints fan because of proximity. Now if Mississippi got an NFL in Jackson, There would still be Saints fans on the Mississippi Gulf Coast because of a lifetime of passion for the Saints.

How many guys from North Louisiana have turned down LSU for Texas? I guarantee everyone you could possibly name has a counterpart from South Louisian as shown by recent history. In fact, it seems more from South Louisiana have jumped ship than from North Louisiana.

The guys from North Louisiana who recently went to aTM and TCU, were not recruited by LSU. So, yes Texas is a viable alternative if LSU does not offer. But I have never seen any type love for Texas or aTm in the area. It is usually those from the outside making those false claims about the area.

Agree with the guys that are saying it will only help us. Sure on the face it will seem as though it hurts because of the kids TAM will get but those are case by case situations. A lot of the kids they'll get are kids that we were either never going to get or didn't want. Sure they'll beat us for some kids but overall the visibility and more importantly the opening up of kids to other options besides the Longhorns can only help us. TAM being more visible and a viable option to those kids that normally would be Longhorn locks, opens them up to be available for other schools to pounce on them and that means they're more open to us. All we have to do is take care of business on the field and the recruiting part will take care of itself.

Meh.. it's not like we rely on Texas for recruits.. I mean, sure they certainly provide stiff competition for recruiting Texas players, but we will still get ours.

He was also committed to A&M before LSU got involved.

Lacouture is actually from CT. He played 1 year of high school ball in Texas. They moved here to get more exposure for him.

That said, I think the premise of this thread is entirely wrong. The people most impacted by our recruiting are people who depend on their talent from Texas. LSU doesn't. It's supplemental. Though it appears you will get no Texas kids this year, you have a great class anyway. And next year it looks like you are going to get 3-4 Texans.

I should have left the word "How" out of the thread title.

tmc94 with the great analysis.

Those most at risk are those out of Texas schools dependent upon Texas talent for the bulk of their class.

Who's that?
OU, OSU, etc.

I moved out west over twenty years ago and some people still think North Louisianans aren't really Louisianans. Whenever I come home all I see is LSU gear up there.

The Saints/Cowboys rant is accurate though. Proximity does have some pull over time. I hated the 49ers being a lifelong Saints fan but I would have rather the Saints won last years playoff game I would rather lose to the 49ers than the Falcons.
