| So I really like Chevelle but a lot of it sounds the same Posted by Powerman I had really only heard a few of their songs previous to about a month ago Decided to check out their collection a little bit more. I honestly can't say that their sound really changes much from one album to the next. I still like most of it, but they do seem to be pretty narrow with their scope. Which is odd because they certainly appear to have plenty of talent. Thoughts? Reply Back to Top |
| Listen to point #1 from start to finish Reply Back to Top |
| This appears to be one of the albums I don't have Reply Back to Top |
quote: Great album. And by great i mean amazing. And it sounds nothing like anything they did afterwards. Mia Open/Point #1 Definitely listen start to finish but here are few examples. The video for Mia is awesome, and the Point #1 video is even better, but for some reason its not on youtube, so this just Open/Point #1 by itself. | My favorite by them is "Shameful Metaphors". A lot of their stuff sounds the same, but that one just sticks out for me. I don't know why. I guess it's just good music. Reply Back to Top |
| Love them. I've seen them live twice. I don't think they sound too similar. The sound varies enough from album to album to hold my interest. Reply Back to Top |
| I will say that within the albums themselves they seem to vary a bit I definitely love all of it I think the Hats off to the Bull album is definitely underrated as far as new stuff goes Reply Back to Top |
quote: awesome record...not sure why they ever got away from this sound. quote: This really is a good track and they refuse to play it live (it's been played very little). Reply Back to Top |
quote: It's their best one Reply Back to Top |
quote: Just downloaded it Gonna check it out at work today Reply Back to Top |
quote: because labels/producers wanted them to have a more mainstream sound is all I can think. I stopped listening to them after that album, which is a shame cuz Point# 1 is really badass. I love his chord progessions in that album. After that it's just mainstream, catchy chorus bullcrap Reply Back to Top |
| Steve albini produced it, that's why. Reply Back to Top |
quote: "Mainstream" just means to appeal to a wider audience. It's an understandable business move. They still had a couple of decent tunes out on their subsequent albums. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Some of that. Point #1 was on an indie label that went under. They had to sue to get out of the deal (label mate Sixpence none the richer lost there's). So when it came time to record there was alot of frustration (most of Wonder Whats Next is centered on the ordeal). So basically a heavier angry album came out and the label saw $$$. And then the band did too. Reply Back to Top |
| absolutely - I don't fault them for any of it; just as a music fan, I really enjoyed that first album, so I was just disappointed with the sound thereafter. I'm just being selfish Reply Back to Top |
| Same here. Im glad they are successful and have lasted this long, but i dont listen to anything other than Point #1. Reply Back to Top |

| Chevelle is probably my favorite band. Their sounds generally don't change, but I love the sound they put out so they all sound great to me. Reply Back to Top |
| Chevelles first album was really good Reply Back to Top |
| I also really enjoy Chevelle, Point #1 and Mia are great songs. Well Enough Alone is probably my favorite song though. As far as the variety of their sound, I agree but I've never viewed that as a detriment. I own every album and never thought to myself that I would stop listening because of the lack of diversity.
