No blood no hit is what my dad and four others told me this morning!

I shot a 8 point last year from 100 yards away, deer feel in its tracks, started squirming, then it stopped. I assumed the deer was dead, I sat in my stand for about 5 min, looked down to send a text to one of my buddies to let him know I just shot a big deer, when I looked up the deer was gone. Got out my stand, walked over to where I shot him and not a single drop of blood, nowhere!!.. Searched the woods, searched the road I shot him on, and never found a single drop of blood.

I figured I it him in the shoulder and just knocked him down.,. didnt seem to phase him and when he shook it off he just got up and ran off.

Both of yall shot
Neither found blood
He found dead deer

I think he has just as much claim to it as you.

If he did it knowing it was your deer, then that is pretty shitty.

You probably hit him high near the spine. Think of a stinger in football. "stuns" em and they hit the deck, but then get up and leave. I gave learned this the hard way like you did.

You shouldve hacked a hind quarter off after you loaded it up in his truck.

Salmon, you seem like a quality guy. Not that you need me to tell you that. Good for you for being the bigger guy and helping the guy out. I understand you're just venting and your actions say what kind of person you are.

And you're right about public land. O avoid it during gun season, but I usually kill more deer in red dirt then our club.

Exactly. It's just a deer. You may have been wrong and if the dude was lying and needed it that bad then so be it.

+3 to Karma.

Even if he was just a scumbag bold enough to get you to load your own deer in his truck, it's almost comical to come across someone that detached.

But it sure would have been funny had you flipped that sucker over for speed surgery to see who's bullet was in it.

If there was only one hole in the deer you don't really have much ground to stand on.

If he's a shitbag he probably shot in a tree or something after he saw the deer fall and scooped it up. If he isn't a shitbag he was probably telling the truth.

Which one really happens depends on I he was a shitbag.

Here's what I think happened. You shot the deer and it ran toward him. He saw the deer flop and die and he shot into the ground somewhere and then picked up your deer.

Woods are full of shitbags. Hopefully he needed the deer more than you.

both bullets went through the same HOLE

this was the problem, "So I'm rifle hunting on a WMA this morning"

It stinks with public land that is all i have to hun on also I feel your pain.
BUT when i win powerball I am going to spend all of the money on land and do habitat work and only allow TD posters to hunt.
so we can count on that.

Infidel, I agree, that's prolly what happened. Has happened to me twice, both times due to unforseen circumstances. It's possible to hit a deer high in the chest, yet not hit the aorta/spine (below them) and, if the deer has just exhaled, miss the lungs (above them). This shot is not usually fatal and leaves little, if any, blood.

Salmon, As already mentioned, congrats on taking high road instead of making accusations.......

Something like this happened to me many years ago. A friend asked me to hunt on his lease one AM (I was going into work that AM a few hours late). Had been on the stand an hour when I heard a shot VERY close. A minute later, a 5 pt buck appeared, coming from same general area as the shot. The buck looked unhurt. It started hooking a sapling. I shot it behind the shoulder and it dropped on the spot (270 Win). Hearing my shot, my friend walked up a few minutes later. We walked to the truck, drove back to the deer and loaded it up. As we drove off, we heard voices in nearby woods, same general direction the earlier shot had come by. When we skin the deer at home, we see the deer had a fresh shot in the flank, angling into the guts, but no exit wound. As soon as I get to work, my friend calls and says I'm being accused of stealing a deer shot on a neighboring lease. The other guy claims he shot a deer broadside in the chest w/ a 7 Mag at close range. He'd trailed it for 100 yards, to the point he saw us "drive off w/ HIS deer." He knew my friend's brother in law so called him to complain. There was no doubt in my mind or my friends' mind I had killed the deer, not the other guy, who had hit it in the flank. In an effort avoid further problems, I gave the other guy some of the deer.

Odd things can happen in the deer woods. Fortunately, I've not had any other experiences like that.

We're you hunting Alexandria State Forest?

nah, it was Loggy Bayou WMA

and the more I think about it, I think the guy either a) legitimately shot another deer, had it run off, and just found my deer or b) had my deer run by him, shot at it, missed, but thought he hit it, and found it later

I don't think he would have done it on purpose.

I'm also of the mindset that nobody is shitty enough to knowingly steal a deer. Might be giving humans too much credit though

I don't trust my 30-30 marlin any more.. I was siting my 30-30 last season and it was hitting the target all different ways.. I used the ballistic and the regular bullets and it still wasn't hit the target right.. Went through a lot of shells before I gave up and said that close enough.. Well this same year I missed 2 deer and wounded one.. On Christmas eve, the shot the wounded the one was from 80 yards. I aimed right behind the shoulder and I think I ended up hitting him on the upper front leg. He jumped straight up and fell to the ground, got back up and ran for it life. I found a little piece of bone, blood and hair, Me and two other guys followed the blood trail for 200 yards but lost it Never freaking found him.. After that I bought a .270 and man I love it.
